Hi,

can everyone access the Virgin Newsgroups ok?

I seem to be able to set up newsgroups in Thunderbird ok but the Virgin Media server seems a lot slower than the old NTL used to be.

However if I set up the Virgin server in GrabIt, it connects ok but then says "bad command usage: 501" if I try to download the grouplist.

I have no such problems with Astraweb servers when using Grabit.

Any ideas?

Virgin Broadband 10MB Expense

ok so Virgin Media are telling me 10MB Broadband is £25.00 a month to existing customers. I think this is a bit extausionate of a price compared to some internet service providers out there who offer up to 16MB cheaper than what Virgin are charging for 10MB. My wife looked at the bill and said thats a joke for 10MB Broadband. Lately we have been forever paying this company all of our money and at the end of the day we have no low bill and it always falls around over £100 which i think is out of order. Us customers are not being treated nice and are thinking of leaving Virgin Cable Services.

here is what the broadband shows on my bill

Broadband Size: L 06 December - 05 January £25.00

Wife just signed up. I don't think its worth £6.
Yeah its faster but I was quite happy with 10 MB

Any opinions, all i can see is that you'll reach your limits (although higher) sooner.

Upload isn't much better either.
Can you still opt out in 30 days if you don't like it ?

Last week my BB was down for days.... Does anyone have a recommendation for a back-up service?

I tried to find a BB usb dongle but it seemed there was a catch with them, the PAYG ones seem to only keep their allowance for that month the way the shop assistant described it, and if you didnt use it you losed it, is that correct?

hi folks
any help or thoughts with my little problem would be much appreciated,
I am into my sixties and know a little about the workings but still learning. I have had a trouble free run for many years untill recently,I have been on the M package and the 2mbps has been more than adequate for my needs, skype etc ran perfectly, a couple of month ago I got a free upgrade to 10 mbps, and I have had nothing but bother since, skype won"t work very slow downloads, on average 0.50 download speed . gone through all the rigmarole that everybody seems to suffer with customer services? done all the tests that they suggested start in safe mode and test speed etc ect still no joy. Last contact was yesterday when I was asked about my modem, it is the same one as when I started (ntl home 200) she said that would be the likely cause and she would send a new one . could it be that my modem is obsolete and whilst OK working at 2mbps cannot handle the upgrade to 10, its very unusual that since my upgrade my speed has dropped from well over 1.5 mbps to 0.45
I would be very grateful if anybody could give me any advice or help
is there a way that I might be able to check modem status or speeds for myself, anybody else had same problem?
once again thanks for any help

I am changing from O2 access to Virgin cable. I set the order up online a couple of weeks ago and I got an e-mail a couple of days later stating that an engineer will be round on the 27th November, also they would be in touch with regards taking payment for installation and also that I should receive a contract and I was to sign it and return it. However I have not heard anything from them since. I was just wondering if this was standard practice or do you think thay have forgotten about me:cry:. My o2 finishes on the 28th so I hope Virgin will be here on Friday.

I've emailed complaints and had a reply and have been offered a months refund but quite frankly it's not good enough!

I've spoken to support and it's a problem with my UBR in the new malden area.

What else can I do?

I can't leave since I live around 5km from my BT exchange so by the time it gets to me it's way to slow!!
