I too thought he sounded just like Bono on World Idol but not on the album....you can hear his Norweigan accent and couldn't mistake him for Bono.

What a voice! I made my vote during last weeks show.

Thanks for all the MP3 links...I'm downloading them all.

I bought the album from http://www.cdon.com/ click on EU and it's all in English. It was an excellent service....took 2 days to arrive.

Arrgghh...I'm so envious! I bought mine from cdplanet...no idea how long it will take to come... :(

I've heard a few people say 'She's So High' is great...can't wait to hear it...!!!!

Hmmm, unfortunately, that web site doesn't help me because I live in the U.S. :(

If you can stand to wait for Kurt's album my bet is that after the Decision tomorrow his work will be released urgently world-wide.

As fast as the WI PR machine can press it and send it out they will.

I predict his album (and his alone) will be the fastest selling and maybe the largest selling in music history.

Whenever before have millions of people listened at one time and wanted something so much.

Now that is a very biiiiig prediction.

But we shall see. ;)

tomes 01-01-2004 04:26

That is a biig prediction indeed, Till! ;-) I don't think it is impossible though. I think even if he doesn't win, some company is bound to pick him up for worldwide distribution.. (I haven't heard his record personally (yet), but people seem to really like it, so I can't be a 100% sure of course)

But the Idols are all contracted already.

Surely that contractual arrangement will cover things such as this.

The Idol machine is out to make money after all.

After my disappointment at Sam not winning PI2, Kurt has well made up for it for me.

Kurt Nilsen is a real find in the world; his talent is superb. His voice is incredible and very versatile. This is what PI is all about for me...about finding someone who may not have made it through usual channels but has true brilliance.

Here's the link for Kurt's stuff, peeps....I even found a link to buy his CD, after a kind poster told me where to get it...

Rock on Kurt Nilsen; a real star. No question.

Norway - congratulations on your new national treasure, and thank you for sharing him......:D

As I've never seen World Idol (which probably works in my favor!) I have no pre-conceived ideas about this "Kurt" guy.

Anyway I have just played a few of his tracks and would have to say he does sound kind of “interesting". Totally unlike the Pop-Idol conveyor belt fodder we’ve been dishing out. Musically speaking he comes across a little like Andreas Johnson, very euro, but I guess it could have been allot worse he could have sounded like Gareth Gates!!

Thanks, DD. A very interesting view given you haven't seen what Kurt looks like yet....lots of folks have and some different views have been put forward. Interestingly enough, even though many peeps feel Kurt doesn't have the PI image, many feel he does have the talent in any case.

As you say...not the usual fodder at all...

Actually I've just seen a picture of him on the TV2 web-site and I see what you mean! But that's cool. I never thought Will looked like the conventional image of a pop idol and I guess that’s one of the reason people like him; it's always nice to see that occasionally substance can win over style.

ZipGypsy 01-01-2004 14:28

Interesting; I think...and this is IMO, that Will Young is a really, really, really unattractive man. Really not nice at all...to me. But then, as much as I loved young Sam...I didn't find him attractive at all either...and couldn't see what all the young girls liked about him. But then, I think I'm weird (and appropriate to my age!!!) but give me the nasty, naughty Simon Cowell anyday....yum. :o

LOL. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that!

Coming from a bloke’s point of view, I never really saw what the fuss with Sam was. To me, being a little nasty, he looked a like a bloated chip-monk!!

Sigh. Women!

*Gives a stern look to cheeky DD for dissing the wonderful Sam but doesn't mention anything about hamsters and chinchillas*

Well, if he's good enough to model cloths for D&G he can't be that unattractive.

But like you say, it's a matter of opinion.
Somepeople like Darius because he's good looking. Personally i find him sickly. :D

LOL...models? There a lots of very, very ugly models out there!!! Darius...yes, I think he is a very attractive looking person. I must admit I still prefer Simon...as you say...it's all taste. And it's not all about looks (gawd, if only I'd listened to my mother when I was young!!!); psychology and personality can be very sexy...far more than perfect features...IMO...anyway...

That's confirmed it...2004 is the year I just got 'old'...LOL

steve_nova 01-01-2004 18:53

Kurt was last on and up till then I had thought perhaps the Ozzie lad or even Will might be in with a chance.
Kurt just blew them away. What a fantastic voice. It's a rigged vote if he doesn't win!

God Zip I agree completely, serial mum likes hobbits;)

I've never seen it either, I just switched on as he started his reprise at the end, not knowing what time it was due to finish or who'd won (well not caring actually!) . I thought he was shouting, out of tune, bl**dy awful!

Someone please please, tell me the excitement got to him and his rubbish reprise wasn't at all like his performance in WI proper! Otherwise, I'll think I'm going mad!

Yes.. He does have a good voice, I'd hardly call him a breath of fresh air though, his voice is so similar to Bono's it's not even funny. And imo, while he was good, he was hardly the best on World Idol, Will, Kelly, Guy and Ryan all outsung him imo, as well as looking like a Pop Idol (AND being a breath of fresh air).

All imo of course, and I'm glad you love him, hope you have lots of fun listening to and watching him perform! ;)

Let us know if his album is good! :)

I'm norwegian and Kurt was my absolute favourite through the whole Norwegian Idol show. He might sound like Bono on Beautiful Day, but one of the things that makes me like him, is that he is himself all the time. And he makes all the songs he sings his own songs. He takes them into his heart and makes them his own songs. That's what I love about him. And he can sing so many different songs!

I'm so glad people appriciate him. He is truly an amazing artist, and what amazes me is that he is even better live than on the vd . He did a concert here in november and I got his autograph and talked to him and he was so nice :D It was a truly awesome concert.

Anyway. I'm really glad I found this tread, cause he is really amazing! The album is awesome, and I hope all of you who wants it will get it! :D

Hiya, Zunny!!!!! Real nice to see you here :) I am overawed by Kurt...and seeing him at the results show, only makes me love him more! Kurt was so shocked at winning and I am so heartened by the world voters that they went for talent and voted for the best of the best!!

Kurt is one of the best artists to hit the world for years....he is a better singer than Bono...for any bit that he may be like him. Kurt is wondeful...I am blown away....and delighted to be so.

Ohhhhhh, lucky, lucky Norway!!!! Be sooooooo proud! :D :D :D

I am sooooo pickled

Aussie opinion

I concur with all the accolades that Kurt is receiving.

However, people seem to forget the judges are mostly industry people/professionals (except that uber MORON from Poland - was he trying to be funny, or was he just vacant space? :o), so they look at all aspects, including marketing.

The popular music stage is literally LITTERED with so-called "beautiful people" - it helps to sell!

The Aussie judges comments were a reasonable way (i guess) of saying Kurt has fantastic talent, but would not be their first choice as a marketing project.

And, yes, i guess the "hobbit" name will stick - for a while. :D

I've listed to a few MP3's of Kurt's, and WOW - definitely an album i would buy (if the Norwegians made it a tad easier than stealing the Crown Jewels).... and yes, I think our Guy Sebastian has a good voice, BUT his style is not to my liking.

I did, however, buy Kelly Clarkson's album  - a true professional that girl - only two people in this race for me - Kurt and Kelly.

Anyway, we will hear MUCH more about Kurt - and I hope the Norwegians get off their butts and do an English language web site for him, and make his music available to the world.

matt.b 02-01-2004 01:25

All the best to Kurt :) Finally shows that all these industry morons have ****ed music up big time over the last years. Shoot Simon and consortia to the Mars so he can transmit from there with that Mars probe. :p

Hi! :)

"Thank you so much" would probably be transelated into
"Tusen hjertelig takk"
I must say that I am pleasantly surprised that so many people like Kurt, and that they do not comment that much on his looks.
As earlier mentioned on this page, there are many famous singers/performers that do not look like a model.
What is important, is that he sings great! People should also go on Kazaa and search for "Fenrik lane". Or just Kurt Nilsen.
Lots of good music! I am proud of Kurt, he did very well!
