Freeview - BBCi Page Numbers, Teletext Holidays and TV Guide

Anyone have any ideas when these will be changing on Freeview? BBCi got page numbers on Sky the other week apparentely. And Teletext Holidays should be updated like Teletext was, or just merged with that on the same channel to save having to flick all over the whole channel list to get what you want - and they could do away with TV Guide as it is in Teletext's new service now.

Soon I hope.

Not possible - it is on a different multiplex.

It was in Teletext's old service too - even though they looked exactly the same. The new service has a different look TV guide, and some people prefer the old one. I can't even get into the new service, so am quite glad the old TV guide has remained.

This still doesn't answer the question about BBCi. Do you think before christmas it may happen?

aland1999 30-11-2004 19:31

BBCi

I believe that the BBCi Freeview (and other non-numbered services) will switch to the new numbered style within a few weeks (I read this somewhere, but cannot remember where). Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.

Having said that, they'd better hurry up. I think the BBC would be wary of launching such a change to BBCi too close to Christmas - the last thing they want is the whole thing to crash on Christmas Eve... :(

holsy1982 30-11-2004 21:11

true, but similarly they won't want to wait till after xmas because you don't want to confuse any newbies by changing the system straight after getting it

Mr Brightside 30-11-2004 23:47

im guessing mid december. ample time to make sure it doesnt crash and time to make sure 'newbies' dont get confused of the new system.

don't quote me on this though, its my guess not a fact from a website!!!

It's not going to crash, they are experienced engineers they know what they are doing.

Chances are it was all coded before the press announcement as it was rolled on to Sky pretty quick.

Mr Brightside 01-12-2004 00:28

yeh, but problems can ensue with older boxes or boxes that cant handle that amount of information being sent at them in such as small amount of time, they have to make sure that it doesnt slow the service down too much as well.

BREAKING NEWS (i think)

As of 4:22 BBCi has ceefax numbers, yay

cant find the thread that talks specifically about it but its here!

paul_hadley 06-12-2004 16:39

Cheers. I will go and check my service. Back in a few minutes.

paul_hadley 06-12-2004 16:43

Wow it looks really good. A little slow on the new pages though on my Nokia 121T box.

digiperson 06-12-2004 16:44

Yay, looks fab. :)

I didn't check the BBCi channel though. Have they changed the look of that at all? If they haven't changed it, they should just have a BBCi logo there instead of all that rubbish (like Teletext) where it says press text to enter.

TaxiRED™ 17-12-2004 20:08

Does anyone know what the teletext numbers are for flight arrivals on Freeview !! on the BB1 channel is 448, but on freeview i cant find it anywhere.

Thanks in Advance

holsy1982 17-12-2004 20:30

not sure it's there, but you can find most of them on the web. On Analogue it's only on Channel 4 I think but when I looked I couldn't find it on teletext on 4 (DTT)either.

TaxiRED™ 17-12-2004 20:50

cheers mate, it's just i bought a freeview for me dad for xmas, so its for him really that needs the teletext number. hmmmmm guess he'll just have to do without the info on airport arrivals

holsy1982 17-12-2004 20:53

ah, it might be there, didn't look for too long, on the whole the codes are the same as on terrestrial so might be worth trying the same code.

chrisy 18-12-2004 12:56

It isn't on any of the digital text services as far as I can see.

mangadongle 19-12-2004 10:36

Even Ceefax are slowly losing airports from their arrivals list. IIRC one of the north east airports disppeared this year.

freeview_mad 19-12-2004 13:24

slightly off topic but yesterday i noticed that the section names in the index were slightly smaller and a new blank section (with no name) has appeared at the bottom
