Its a possibilty as OfCom are reviewing the guidelines. And now R18 is legal to buy, I don't see why it can't be bought on television.

This is an ongoing dicussion. I think my very first DS post was about this, in fact (only back in May :-)
The situation is under review and there is a fairly strong likelihood (from what I've heard) that hardcore content will be introduced on subscription and PPV satellite porn channels pretty much as soon as OfCom allows it. Undoubtedly, there will probably be uproar from Daily Mail readers (who secretly watch it anyway) but OfCom are in fairly broad agreement that the current situation is silly - i.e. that you can buy hardcore vids and DVD's and see just about anything on the net but can't watch it on late night, subscription-only, encrypted TV channels. However, OfCom will likely set out guidelines for what is acceptable (probably within the existing R18 standard), so that we are allowed to see penetration and oral sex but broadcasters will be prohibited from broadcasting potentially offensive material such as non-consensual sex (real or "acted"), sex with minors (obviously) and borderline bad-taste sexual practices such as those involving, ahem, bodily wastes. |

Unfortnately the rest of the world is now doing "extreme porn". It is like broadband internet situation, we are forever playing catch up. They have 10 Mbit, we have 512k.
If they will ban 'bad taste' that would rule out (readers of a nervous disposition should skip the next 4 words), 'female self vomit masturbation'... not that i've seen it on video. We should be leading and doing crazy things that have not been filmed before. Yes it would be ill but nothing illegal happened. The biggest thing that holds us back is the Obscene Publications Act. I am offended by Christian religious programming on terrestrial TV but that still exists. Why not have 'live worship from the mosque' ? daily mail is nothing but trouble. I recently asked somebody about the Leah Betts case (1994). 10 years on they thought the daily mail story was correct. The truth was know weeks after the headline, but somebody believes lies 10 years on!! Hardcore you know the score. |

The Obscene Publications Act is a 1959 joke and matters very little these days.It rarely goes to court as its very difficult to get a jury to find anything obscene these days. The Act is still enforceable on the grounds that something"is likely to deprave and corrupt".Antiquated and in need of abolition.
Current R18 rules restrict supply to licensed sex shops.Broadcasting it on Sky would seriously undermine that part of the classification and so I would be surprised to see full strength R18 on UK satellite unless the BBFC R18 rules are modified. It would look really stupid being able to record it from Sky,but not be able to buy it from places other than sex shops. If the rule does not change, you would be able to record it from Sky,but if that tape/dvd passes to anyone outside your house you would be violating the Video Recordings Act. |

It should be noted that the Ofcom consultation document, while outlining an option to allow R18 on satellite, actually recommends that the status quo be maintained. If people want to see a change then they need to respond to the consultation.

As danbrusca pointed out the status quo in their draft copy has been recommended by Ofcom. So all those keen for a change do not assume it will happen. Unless you get involved.
So please try and find the time. Get typing and take part in the consultation before it ends early October... I too am not optimistic about the outcome of the consultation. Never the less I did find the time and patience to get involved.....Ofcom are not mind readers. Indeed Ofcom would prefer if people didn't have minds at all. then they could continue the culture of repression at will. It is up to all of us to remind them that there are people who care about repression and unjustified infantile censorship. let them know it is time the UK public were treated like adults with the freedom to choose....... |

Actually watersports is NOT permissable on R18 material.Although they will allow scenes involving urination,if the urinating is actually on to another person then it is cut.Check out the BBFC website. There are numerous dvd's cut to remove "urolagnia".

I myself dont care less, yes i have viewed it who hasnt, but just cant see the point, however and this is the point i wish to make. Nearly all of Europe has had Hard Core Porn for years, the have no licensing laws as far as drink is concerened compared to ours, and they dont care about nudity on Beaches. Given all those things they have lower crime levels, less sexual violence, and hardly and drink related problems.
What a nanny state we live in. So lets do away with such silly ideas, its 2004 for anyone in Ofcom reading this, and even the children have seen worse than me. |

I don't believe for a second that there would have been this rush of new channels if Ofcom weren't about to allow some kind of relaxation of the rules. It seems utterly bizarre that the technology exists for encrypted PPV and yet we don't use it. It's even more bizarre that these adult channels, despite being encrypted, are no harder than material which airs in the early hours on Channel 4 - a free to air channel. And as for the Daily Mail, it would be anti the idea, but only because Richard Desmond (owner of the Express) would benefit from these rule changes. |

I say bring on the hardcore porn. I've completed my feedback sheet for the Ofcom consultation, giving my opinion on the matter and hope that I soon start to see value for money for my £15 a month! .. Instead of seeing a 'womans area' (to quote Alan Partridge) being obscured at an important point, by a hairy leg, or an elbow .. or some other bone
![]() The sooner the better I say .. I can stop importing stuff then from the US

Just looked at the current Ofcom consultation paper on the review of adult material.
Section 14.62 has a recommendation that R18 material should continue to be prohibited unless there are enough safeguards in place to prevent minors or easily offended adults from viewing such material. Given that R18 material would only be sensibly available on premium or PPV adult channels, there are surely enough safeguards in place already. It's virtually impossible to "accidentally" tune in to adult TV channels, given that they're PIN protected and available to subscribers only (who, presumably, have subscribed to the service using a credit card). It's far easier for a child to obtain hardcore porn on the internet or to pick up one of dad's R18 adult videos - OfCom should be satisfied that there are enough safeguards in place on adult channels already. Since the review is still under consultation, anyone wishing to express their views either way should go here: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultation...ion15/?a=87101 You've got until 5th October. |

If not, please tell that to those who oppose pornography on TV, because that's what they think will happen to society if we're allowed to watch images of consenting adults having sex in the privacy of our own homes. |
