How to...Make your own web site.

What is the best way to go about this.

I think Apple make a product called iWeb for creating basic home pages......is there a PC version (or something similar).

How tricky is the software to use. Do you still have to understand code, or is everything done with the mouse.

Does the internet connection need changing, or doesnt it make any difference.

What about the ISP. Do you have to ask for some sort of uprgade or activation to publish your finished web site on the internet.

How do you switch between maintain and standard view once you have your web site running.

wow ok lol

I cant think of any free easy to use pieces of software off hand.

you dont need to change anythin with ISP as pretty much any webhost use ftp transfer so no upgrades or activations should be needed.

not sure what you mean about the maintain and standard view bit

Well seen as you are very new to this. I would suggest some free webspace with a builtin webpage maker from

free webs.com (no space, it seems digital spy have blocked the url)

Does your ISP provide free webspace, if so it's a good place to start because you can put together a simple site to see if you really want to become more serious and find a proper site host.
ISPs rarely provide for free all the tools that a really serious site builder needs but why waste money on something you might only use as an occasional past-time?

If you don't want to learn how to code in HTML and CSS then you need a free WYSIWYG app like KompoZer avalable here http://downloads.sourceforge.net/kom...7.10-win32.zip with assistance here http://wysifauthoring.informe.com/index.php

if you want to learn the hand coding then you can be really tough and use notepad, although I understand notepad++ is better, but I use HTML-Kit, also free, which incorporates an ftp app (needed to upload stuff from your PC to your site). There are loads of tutorials, HTML dogs is pretty good ( http://www.htmldog.com/guides/htmlbeginner/), as is charlescookes KompoZer based tutorial at http://nvudev.com/guide/1.0PR/ also Mark Tranchant's tutorial at http://mark.tranchant.co.uk/web/authoring.

Go on, give it a go, it's great fun and really satisfying when you see your efforts up there on the screen.

Another way is to use a premade scrit such as phpbb forum or php-nuke etc all free
Ive just put a new nuke based site up for the current next gen dvd war

BluWars.com click to see it in action or concider signing up

Although things like this require a server running mySQL and php but its a good way of getting into running a more advanced site.

Are you planning on using a server on yur own pc or hadnt you thought that far
