New software (25th August 2004)

New software will be delivered to the majority of the PACE STBs tomorrow morning. Updates will commence at 5am.

There will be NO new features added to the STBs with this download.

There is no news as to when the other digiboxes will receive updates but it normally happens within several weeks of the initial downloads.

I noticed my DS430N box was switched off this morning, I checked the OS version and the EPG version but from what I remember the versions are the same as before. Anyone know what the point of this update is if nothing has changed?

I would suggest you're 24 hours out.

Speaking as one of those who discovered *their* Pace STB's had reset to 998 overnight *last night* ...

If you're working on that premis Otis, may I suggest that you are 24hrs out. Over on the Sky+ forum there were many reports that peoples boxes rebooted onto 998 on Sunday at 14:00hrs.

Have you noticed any change to your OS number etc in the services menu.

Regards James

My Pace 2600 was on page 998 this morning.

It is a version 9F08 and the only change from previous update is the model no has gone from 1.0.56 to 1.0.58.

Is this new update related to the forthcoming EPG change which was talked about some time back?

No software designer will admit his software has "bugs" - it just has "features"!!!!!

Will this be downloaded to all Sky boxes eventually? If so, hopefully it will remove the 'feature' that causes Panasonic boxes to lock up at random when changing channel, which was added by the last software update.

I wondered what was going on that morning... i turned the TV on to a "No satelitte signal being received" message even though the weather was fine... i guess the new software had something to do with it?

Oh God, I hope so. My Grundig has been frequently re-booting since just before Big Brother started. I have deleted all my additional channels and re-loaded the software, but it still does it. It is driving me and my other half up the wall.

No satelite signal being recieved after software download

I've had the dreaded 'no satelite signal being received' message since the software download to my Pace box.

Just thought it was due to a thunderstorm in the bahamas as per usual than caught up with this bulitin board and spotted the connection?

Been on the phone to Sky, who after helpfully telling me to blow on the connections in my Scart cable 'as particles can sometimes get in there', then later comparing my Sky box to a fridge 'that can suddenly just stop working', were not able to help.

After a second call where they at first denied sending an update to my box, they later admitted to sending an update before suggesting they could send an engineer out for £65. They reassured me that the engineer would have a good look at the box before replacing it with a refurbished box (all included in the price) which begged the question:

'If I can have a new box in the flat fee of £65, what incentive is there for the engineer to try to resolve any problems with my box?'

The operator got lost on this point and after umming and arhing about this for a while, put me onto the 'Team Specialist' who 'reassured' me as quickly as possible (by this time I must have seriously been upsetting their call centre's KPI's) that the software could not have possibly caused the message I was seeing and that it was pure conincidence that my box stopped recieving signals after getting the new software.

Now don't get me wrong, I didn't deliberately go out of my way to be awkward with the operator. I'm a project manager in the R&D department for a large software company and we too have our difficult customers. What annoys me is the misinformation the operators are given to do their job and also the arrogance from the 'team specialist' that software 'could not possibly be responsible for the message I was recieving'. Surely anything that runs on the box is a result of the software (OS or EPG software) running on it? I had a similar problem in February where the software download caused the machine to reboot every night. That took over a week of calls and denials before they relented to restore the previous version of the software.

I'm a little bitter I suppose but wanted to share my experience with the forum.
