Bring Back Butt Hole Road!

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...Hole-Road.html

I think it's an absolute outrage that they have changed the name of the street. It is close to my home town of Doncaster and always amused me when i saw it. The residents knew where they were moving to, so why rename it?

BRING BACK BUTT HOLE ROAD!

Does anyone else live anywhere with silly names? Would you have it changed?

I agree with the residents. People who just see the sign or hear of the road can have their laughs & walk away. When you've got to live there & hear the comments about it on an almost daily basis, it must be really wearing. Add to that not getting your deliveries, having "comedians" turning up to photo their bare backsides & I'd want to change the name too.

A colleague used to live in Bell End (Birmingham). As someone from overseas, she'd never heard the expression before & once someone explained what the giggling was about she couldn't wait to move.

Four letters and the swear filter has blocked it out.

I can hazard a guess at a few things that it could be, but who on earth named it?

Now I think about it, my local pub is the Cock Inn. Most other cocks have changed their names, but this one is still out and proud.

It was, apparently, common practice for medieval street names to reflect their primary purpose, which is why the country was once full of examples like this.

Apparently many Love Lanes and Grope Lanes started off as Grope C u n t Lane - the street where the prostitutes used to work.

We have a pub called the Pyle Cock, and another called the Spread Eagle.

That's about as good as I can do.

There's a Fanny Street in Cardiff, and and the surrounding streets are called Flora, Minny, Letty, Gladys etc supposedly after the prostitutes that worked the area. Which is why Richard Street gives me a giggle every time...
