I remember those who were killed and my thoughts are with their families and friends. What a horrible day 7/7 was and how many awful times have those families been through since then.

Is there a pillar for each of the suicide bombers or only their victims?

I was on The underground at paddington as it was happenning, it was my first time in london, we all got evacuated to street level, they were saying it was electrical problems, so i was left walking the streets with a huge rucksack, lost trying to find my way to my hotel in bayswater, along the way i happenned upon groups of people watching the news in shop windows, wasnt until i actually got to my room that i realised the enormity of what wss happenning.

I had to join a large que at the phonebox to phone relatives and let them know i was fine as all mobiles were saying "network busy".

My heart goes out to those affected, just the wrong place at the wrong tome really, could easily have been me.

Such a tragic and pointless waste of life and I include the deluded perpetrators in that.

I agree with memorials I just don't think 1 million should be spent on any memorial, it is a waste of money, you don't need to spend a lot of cash to have something that pays tribute to people. That money could've been better spent on the living.

Personally I think maybe a plaque at each station (and Tavistock Sqaure) may have been more appropriote. It's a memorial after all and not an excuse for some funky {and tres epensive} modern art
That's a nice idea Rainbowgirl - personally I would think that much more appropriate.

One million is not a whole lot really.

There were 52 victims and 4 bombers - from a day or two after the attack the reference has always been 52/4... I think initially a lot of papers talked about 56 deaths etc...

So there are 52 pillars!!

As 52 were killed, plus the bombers, I would guess that the perpetrators are not represented.

It's a lot to waste (which in my opinion this is), I'm sure any charity would've been glad of it. You don't need to spend a lot to honour people.

Don't get me started on the Diana tribute, same with all the damned flowers laid out for her and people like MJ!!

There is still a makeshift one outside Stockwell tube (doubt it cost anywhere near a million).

Me either. Concrete posts ffs?? How about something a little more attractive and imaginative? No doubt some arty farty person designed it just as they did with the Princess Diana memorial.

The pillars all seem really cluttered and bunched together!

I half wonder if they were going for something similar to the field of empty chairs at the Oklahoma City National Memorial.

Yeah it is. All old and rotten flowers. They should build one for him or put a plaque on the station.

Maybe Michael Winner could organise something, I hear he is good at things like that.

The Establishment putting up monuments for the victims of terrorism. Had it not been for the policies of the Establishment, there would not be any need for putting up monuments.

Same here - was abroad on holiday at the time, OH and I were having lunch out on a restaurant terrace and the restaurant owner realised that we were British and told us about it in broken English, pointing us to his tv inside.

We finished our meal and went back to our complex where we watched the coverage, very sad, particularly as there was another British couple sitting in the pool bar with us who were frantically trying to find out if their son in London was ok .

That's a lovely idea RG22 .

I too remember the events unfolding - the most awful thing was the mobile networks going down and being unable to reach my youngest brother who used the Tube everyday. Thank God all was OK - I was lucky, I was already at work when it happened and didn't know anyone caught up in it personally.

It was a very, very sad and tragic day not just for Londoners but for everyone!!

Glad that your brother was ok RG22 - and yes, such a sad day for everyone .

My thoughts go out to the victims of this atrocity and their friends and families.

I went to see the Memorial on Sunday, and it moved me and it seemed to move the other people there. My only concern is that the plaque with the victim's names, is open to the elements and may weather badly, as have the flowers, in the coming years. I hope we never have another day like it.
