Will this work...?

Hey guys, I'm posting this for a friend who wants to know if the below system will work with his PS3/TV/Sky HD?

We're both kinda clueless as to how everything would connect and everything, so any help would be awesome.

Here's the system: http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/pro...C-SC-PT170EB-K

That system only has One Optical Input so you wont be able to connect a PS3 and Sky HD to it

Yeah, a combination of HDMI inputs and Optical Inputs would be best

The link didn't work for me so I don't know what the machine has. If it has a digital coaxial as well then that may be okay as Sky+HD Pace has both coaxial and optical (probably Amstrad and Samsung do as well but I'm not sure as I don't have them).

If the only external SPDIF input is a single optical then you can get a switch that will allow you to use both - whether you would be better getting something that would handle both is up to you.

Check though that the two digital inputs are seperately usable and not one or the other.

They would need an optical switch as there's only one optical input available.

The 2way switch is automatic, but you can only have one device on at any one time, the device not being used has to be switched off.

There is a 3way switch available, devices can be left on as this is a manual switch.

If the OP's friend can afford it I would suggest that he goes for an A/V receiver set up that will accept HDMI HD audio from the PS3 and the optical can be utilised for the SKY HD.

The HD audio from the PS3 is superb.
