Sorry if this is a FAQ, but is there a way to roll back to the old EPG if I contact Sky? Just had a forced reboot on our box, and I hate the new guide! I get headaches and struggle to read light text on dark backgrounds, and the new EPG is proving to cause me the same problems... I really liked the old interface, and it looked crisp and clean, rather than a knockoff of a freeview menu!

A force update won't roll bck to the old EPG, you're stuck with it.

Just received my little black book, exactly one week after the new EPG appeared with no warning at all.
Because of forums like this I knew what was going on, but I feel sorry for anyone who just woke up, switched on and found themselves in totally unfamiliar territory. One thing I already hate is the fact that the sound stays on even if you turn mini tv off. Turned the planner on to play back a sports event I was recording on the weekend just in time to hear the commentator announce the final result in the background! |

Sky will surely have to change it one day as they must have had hundreds of complaints by now (we had the result of Countdown wrecked on day one of the new EPG months ago - instantly turning me off the mini TV and it has never been on since). Yes you can press mute but having to remember that everytime you chase play recordings dilutes the use of the box - all due to idiotic software design that seems to have been drawn up by people who have never actually used a box in the way many people use it day in and out (eg chase play). A simple OFF means OFF option to disable picture and sound is all that was needed giving the choice to the viewer not enforced onto them as now with hardly difficult to spot negative downsides to the usefullness of the box. But I bet it will be years before we see something that in truth any credible pre testing programme ought to have identified a year or more ago. |

Couldnt agree more re the sound in background on new epg. If you turn the mini tv off it should turn the sound off as well, this is the worst thing by far that the new epg brings. Aside from this I think its pretty good but this one issue is really annoying. If you set mini tv to off it should give you the sky guide music instead, or at the very least be silent. I cant believe they left this bug in when it has such spoiler potential.

Can't you manually tune the EPG Background audio?

I'm looking forward to the features of the new EPG, but worried about the reliability issues - when SKY did there last big EPG update a few years back I got the old skipping issue and despite months of ringing and getting nowhere as they would not admit they had anything to do with it I told them to stuff it and bought a Humax.
The Mini TV feature - I have the same thing on my Humax and it's great to stick it on BBC News when I get home from work, get the planner up and I can then listen to the days events whilst browsing it - if you don't want any spoilers for events you've recorded can't you just switch it on Dave or some other repeat driven channel before you stick the EPG on or am I missing something obvious...???! Or Mute the sound? Having gone back to Sky for HD the most annoying feature of the old EPG is having to start at the top of it everytime you go in - why doesn't it pop-up on the channel you are viewing? Anyway have an Amstrad so I guess I'll have to be patient ...! |

Remember tho' that the SKY box had to retune to another channel to get that dreadful EPG music. This makes Input2 redundant whilst browsing the guide, and surely contributed to many failed recordings.
I don't think its beyond the technical expertise of SKY's engineers to turn the sound off, but I'd rather not have the horrid EPG music. Not sure what memory is on the box to allow them to download a piece of music to the hard drive that could replay itself rather than tuning to the EPG music channel. |

Christmas music? I'd just be happy to have a box that worked.

Way too quiet ...
Old post but can't see any response to this. Volume is way too low (>10Db less than before) and no hidden menu to change it either - or is there?

Try play, rewind, play as I have noticed that sometimes via the new EPG recordings play with no sound until you do that but for me this kicks the sound in.
Worth a go. |

The new E.P.G. has the sliding graphic that slows down the hole thing. That's terribly un-user friendly and annoying!

. Did you give it longer than five minutes? I know it looks different but for normal use (browsing the guide and choosing recordings to play back) it's not much different. The mini-TV is mildly irritating but not that big a deal. Otherwise give your eyes/brain a day or so to adapt and you'll find you forget all about it. Not that I'm a fan of the update myself but I do think you're being a bit silly. As the old phrase has it 'throwing your toys out of your pram'. |
