Surely this is overkill.
Cowell has spread himself with his mass fortune in the media, so I guess he's got his tentacles into LBC too . I do agree it's become a huge overkill to hear it plugged constantly, like a brainwashing technique that's run riot!

Possibly, but Munchpot recently revealed that Ashley Tabor boss of Global also has interests in the X Factor. He obviously wants them both to suceed! Wait until Simon Cowell mentions that you can get a commentary on the Cristo programme on LBC !!

That Cristo gives a commentary about X Factor totally baffles me. I mean, who listens to it? I feel out of step with the rest of the Country because I just don't get it. A few would be singers doing covers of popular songs and it makes headline news.

Don't worry, MK. I don't go a bundle on X Factor either. Out of morbid curiosity I might peak furtively at the last five minutes of the results show to see who has been booted out but more than that...I simply cannot be bothered with it. Nor would I tune into Cristo and only listen if I happen to jump in the car where the radio is more than likely preset to LBC. I would be really interested in knowing what his listening figures are.

I can only assume that listener figures at this time on a weekend are so low they can put anything on no matter how bad it is.

Rememeber back in 2007 just before Iain Lee left and 'Cwisto' covered for him? Everyone was posting on here saying it must have been a joke setup by Iain.

We need someone worth listening to at this time, but also someone who wont be serious - Jenny Eclair strings to mind...it could be a game, how many times will Jenny's producer have to dump the presenters swears?!

There's a regular caller to Anthony's show called Steve who sounds a lot like Flash. Are they one of the same, does anyone know?

I start to lose interest in LBC at about 10pm on Friday night and all weekend nothing particularly grabs my attention. No appointments to listen, just a few snippets of Ken, Nick or Andrew perhaps, caught in passing. Jenny Eclair was always someone I looked forward to listening to on a Saturday morning; she was really exceptional value. Her ascerbic wit and cynicism is greatly missed. Her LBC shows were even funnier than her gigs.

As far as i'm aware, Cristo's figures are good and keep rising - which is why he maintains his weekend slots

As far as LBC are concerned, X Factror and Strictly are 2 of the most watched programmes in the country. People will therefore talk about it between themselves, and on the radio. The tv shows create interest, and the radio shows are for people who are interested and perhaps can't watch, or watch and listen at the same time. I fit into both categories depending on where i am.

Maybe not for long. I think the X Factor has gone west completely with the dreadful talentless twins 'Jedward' being kept in the competition. Cowell whose famous last words are, "To be honest......." when judging people, has allegedly already signed these two up when they can't sing their way out of a paper bag.
However entertaining the twins may be to the public, what visibility will they have on a recording ? Oh hang on, their voices will be manufactured on disc with all the tweaking of knobs - I think I'm going off Cowell more by the minute! Can't help but watch X Factor though because it is bizarrely entertaining.

After The Max on Saturday morning, I don't listen listen again until Nick Abbot at night. Then nothing until Steve Allen on Sunday morning and then nothing again until Clive at night.

There is nothing whatsoever to get my attention on LBC at any time over the weekend during the day/afternoon/evening/overnight.

Same here paps. I do miss the fun/informal element on LBC, and Jenny certainly knew how to provide that. From what I've read on her website, she was given the boot? I can't see how this was justifiable.

Nick Conrad just apologied after a caller used the word 'porn'.

Is he really in touch with London's youth?

Either the 'joke caller/Iain Lee' era instilled a little paranoia in the current management about 'humour' or they were unhappy about finding stand-ins to cover for Jenny when she went on tour with her old grumpies. She mentions it briefly here. It's a real shame they couldn't have worked something out between them as I honestly believe she liked doing her fews hours on a Saturday morning. Apart from anything else, it allowed her to indulge in her obsession for buying shoes and handbags with the earnings.

Please not Jenny Eclair back on LBC! She's already on more adverts than if she was doing her show again. Can't stand the woman.

You're just like me! I have really gone right off LBC and only listen to Nick Abbot, James Whale and James O'Brien if I can now. I used to love Jenni Eclair and Carol McGiffin, but cannot stand Jeni nor that annoying bint Petrie. I don't bother listening over the weekends

In general I am very happy with LBC at the moment - although there are times I don't listen, I just see that as an opportunity to listen elsewhere (knowing that I'm not missing anything that I like!)

Clive Bull.
James Whale.
Nick Abbot.
H.
Steve Allen.
Nick Ferrari.
The Max.
Bits of Cristo and Jim Davis (all of Jim, when he does other than the sex show).
David Mellor and Iain Dale (stand-ins).

I'm more than happy with all of those.

Possibly because she wasn't able to commit to LBC and they were always have to find subs. for her. She took months off when she was doing her Grumpy Old Women tour. That's one of the problems when you hire people for whom presenting isn't their main job. And she was a bit lightweight for the current news-based agenda. I could take or leave her, depending on who her guests were.

Just seen Pap's post, where she says more or less the same thing.

H said that The Max is covering for him for at least one of his shows when he's away but he wasn't sure who else would be.

I'm like you, RM, in that I manage to find plenty of stuff to listen to elsewhere over the weekend when there's a dearth of entertainment on LBC.

Did you hear H, Pap, where he said that he had 5 weeks holiday to take before January (if I remember right) or he loses it? If he does follow that, it'll mean he has quite a lot of time off within the next 10 weeks or so.

Also, the poor boy sounds as if he is finding it tough going doing 5 nights, as well as his other job. He doesn't show it in his broadcasting at all, and still gives it his all, but he has said how tired he gets and what an unhealthy lifestyle it is doing overnights.

Heard that just now on the podcast I am listening to. Yes, I am REALLY that far behind.. (Thanks LBC!)

He has been away once already (Portugal) when I think he took 2 weeks off, 2 weeks this time which leaves a week to take I guess. I had no idea that they were given 5 weeks. He did remark that if he is to continue with the five nights a week then he really ought to make an effort to take regular breaks to give his voice a rest.

No, you would never know he was tired, would you? He always makes a tremendous effort to keep us entertained, even when there aren't many callers.

Had to laugh at him asking a caller about fixing his extractor fan in his bathroom. Did he forget he was on the radio? He sounds so relaxed on the show. I thought that was hilarious though.

Just got to the Brazil Nut Story. Nutter.

The Max said this morning he was covering in the evenings (for Petrie - I assumed) from the 16th for a week.

Great news. H's last show is next Tuesday morning so I imagine James will cover either Weds, Thurs or Fri morning next week and then cover Petrie the week after.

Yes, of course he had the 2 weeks Portuguese holiday, I forgot that. 5 weeks seems a lot of time off for holidays (not that they don't deserve it). I'm sure Steve Allen isn't off for that much in a year.
