One of the first characters Kathleen "Hatchet" Hutchison wanted axed from the show was Yolande, Patrick's wife. It was decided that she would have a huge showdown with Pat and Patrick after their affair was revealed and abruptly leave Walford. Yolande got a reprieve after Hutchison was let go herself-she stayed on for at least another year and a half.

Going way back into EE's past an IRA terrorist bomb was supposed to kill off Pete Beale and put Wicksy into a wheelchair, paralyzed from the neck down.

I don't know if this one has been mentioned already, but do you remember in August 2007 in EE, when Pat went to find her long-lost sister who had down's syndrome (The sister had died, but she met a man called Lan Harker)?

Later in the year, EE had intended for Len Harker to return and start a full-on romance with her, however Pam St Clement (who plays Pat) was ill, and they had to drop the whole storyline.

Len Harker was played by Christopher Ellison (DCI Burnside in The Bill) and has said that there was a possibility his character may have become permanent in the Square, but after Pam's illness, EE felt it had been too long to reintroduce the character.

I remember that and didn't Shirley and Heather nick his van or something? I think it would have been sweet, and I don't see how? She went off ill around Christmas but returned pretty soon after didn't she ?

Oh yes and he sent her a rocking horse for Christmas didn't he?

Also I am not sure if this is a dropped storyline or not but a while back Max gave Tanya an address for her sister, which I assumed meant that she would be coming back, but she has not been mentioned since...

Autumn 2007 Pam got ill, and although she was appearing in EE again by Christmas, it was only for short bursts with long gaps. If you think about it, Pat herself had virtually NO storylines since then, she has only appeared in connection to other characters big storylines, like the return of Bianca & Janine, and a few bits with Peggy over Archie. The only other thing was Steven trying to kill her, but again, not really her storyline.

I actually think Pam may still be unwell, or not fit to be back full-time.

edit: Also, no, Shirley & Heather didn't nick Len's van, he didn't appear in Walford until his final scene, when he dropped Pat home and said goodbye. You must be thinking of someone else?

Ahh, well one storyline was where Roxy ran her over? But that was tied into Steven's departure. And I think Shirley and Heather nicked her car or something which led her to travel with that Len. They were going down to Brighton to chase Garry and Dawn weren't they?

But yeah Pat's amount of 'holidays' always seem to explain how much she is off ill. She is never around enough to film to have enough time for them to craft a storyline for her anymore. It's a shame really as she still has a lot of mileage left in her.

Another 'Neighbours' one- I've no idea why it was dropped, but it would originally appear that the Hancocks were meant to be known to the Kennedy's, since Karl and Susan looked after a Leo and Emily Hancock a few months prior to the Hancocks arrival, but when they appeared no reference was made to it and they didn't know each other.

There was apparently a terrorist storyline planned for Irish soap Fair City. A few years back, Fair City would do hour long specials where a few of the regular cast would appear with new characters in stories that were usually compeletely unrelated to the main plots of the show. There were specials focusing on abuse in the Catholic Church, teen drug abuse and one where an ex IRA man was shot dead. The writers had planned to do a story involving some sort of terrorist attack on Shannon Airport which would involve some of the regular cast being in the airport at the time of it happening. They didn't go ahead with it in the end as it was suggested that RTE were unhappy to screen such a storyline as it would cause undue concern in the years immediately after 9/11.

Does anyone know what happened to Connor? He just disappeared, I remember Toadie thinking he was murdered and buried in the street - then got a letter or something?

It was never explained

Yes you heard MONTHS later that he was fine and in Ireland or the US or something. It was just a tacked on line by Toadie I think. Very lame.

Has there been a mix up between Daz and Louise on the thread? (ED)

I don't know why either of them left and a pp said one of them beat someone up but i don't know which one, anyone fill me in?

And OT i love this thread, very interesting.

I really enjoyed the episodes with Pat and guy from The Bill i wish they would bring him back, it's not too late!

Wasnt Jake Moon meant to be killed by a hitman after Johnny Allens cellmate thought he wanted him dead?

Did that happen in the end? because I don't remember it.

It was kind of left to the viewers interpretation. We saw Johnny's hitmen leave the Square with Jake and he was never seen or heard of again I guess that does mean he could turn up one day though which would be fab as he was a great character and very fanciable too!

It was the actor that played Daz he beat someone up and pleaded guilty to GBH which is why he left.

Louise left as the actresses dad got ill I think and I guess he must not be doing too well cos she's going back to H&A.

Kathleen "Hatchet" Hutchison's abrupt departure from EE resulted in many storylines being either dropped or reworked. 2 striking examples:

Billy was to hit such a financial low that he would resort to working on cheap hardcore porno videos as a director/producer. He would eventually recruit Stacey and even Ruby, who'd do one out of sheer spite to anger her dad Johnny.

Martin and Sonia would suddenly find themselves becoming parents again. Martin would confess to a stunned Sonia that he'd pricked a hole in his condom to impregnate her-he'd tell her he'd been desperate for another child since they'd spent limited time with Chloe/Rebecca and he was sick of her refusing to have another one because of her nursing career. Their baby would turn out to have Down's Syndrome (remember, this was a few years before Honey and Billy had Janet). Sonia would decide to stall her career and have the baby. The stress of raising the baby girl, however, would cause her to drift into an affair with a former classmate (a male, by the way), leading to a divorce.

Hmm you seem to like porn storylines on EE just like that Rob22, a few pages back...

The word "alias" springs to mind

Chardy79, I'm not the same poster as the other one you're referring to.

My info is from a staffer no longer with the show. The storylines I've described were originally pitched and approved by Hutchison at the show's bi-annual long-term storyline planning conference.

The staffer also told me that besides alienating a lot of the show's cast and crew with her tactless comments Hutchison was also the reason negotiations broke down between EE and Denise Van Outen, who they wanted to play Tina, Johnny's mistress. Tina was originally conceived as a villainous, deeply unpleasant character who would have an affair with Dennis and end up murdered after 3 months. When Hutchison phoned Van Outen to discuss the role she apparently said to her "You'd be playing a bollocks-busting slag-would hardly be a stretch to play, would it?" Van Outen didn't appreciate her sense of humour.

The role was cast with somebody without a high profile and Tina was made more sympathetic in the hope that the character would have potential for a long term run.

Well I'm glad that didn't happen as Denise Van Outen can't act her way out of a paper bag!

Apparently Pauline Fowler was meant to die of cancer in the late 80's. The exec at the time wanted a clear out of original characters, and even went so far as to show Pauline developing the symptoms of a mysterious gynealogical illness but ignoring them and refusing to see a doctor.

Then there was a change of Executive Producer who gave her a reprieve. So instead of cancer, after an accident, Pauline was discovered to have a benign womb condition called fibroids, she had a hystorectomy and that was the end of it.

That's certainly true, Vodka_Drinka. I sent Wendy a fan letter from the US back in 1989 or 1990 and she wrote back saying Pauline was targeted for death by one of "the bosses" but she said they had a battle on their hands. And she won that time.

I remember Pam St. Clement telling me once that there was a storyline planned which would have Pat having an affair with a South African businessman who'd be accompanying Kathy to London during one of her visits. I can't remember whether this would happen while Pat was still with Roy.

And here's one for the books: Phil and Billy were going to go to Las Vegas to search for Sharon when she'd done one of her disappearing acts. Sharon would turn out to be a croupier at a casino. And...drum roll... Angie would be a madam at the local cathouse! But Anita Dobson even said no to that so the BBC went " **** her" and killed Angie off for good.

In Home & Away wasn't the stroyline with Danni being raped by Kane meant to be a lot more graphic but then they watered it down into the ambiguos "attack" references?
