I loved it. I'm the same way. Good for her. The account is still up.

Blimey Nick's show was busy this morning. I found it quite entertaining but he seemed intent on upsetting as many people as possible. I think some callers are getting a bit fed up with his tabloid slant on every topic under discussion.

I had to laugh at the Oxford councillor who simply hung up rather than try and answer an awkward but perfectly reasonable question about fining somebody £80 for dropping a matchstick in the street.

Morning all

Am I the only person who finds James O'Brien's phone-in this morning in rather poor taste? I agree that the Sun may be manoeuvering for political advantage but the mother of the dead guardsman does have a point.

It was a nice gesture from the Prime Minister to write to her but someone should have made sure that the lads name was spelt correctly. Also there have been equipment shortages.

Exactly how James can accuse the mother of sullying her son's name escapes me.... That poor woman has lost her son and now a DJ feels he can have a dig too.

Oh come on. She actually recorded the PM's call to her to apologise for offending her with his poor handwriting and then handed it over to a tabloid newspaper! I dislike Brown and will be glad when he's booted out but he should be given a break over this. I think the Sun has behaved appallingly in encouraging a bereaved woman to behave in a way which, as James says, she may come to regret.

On the matter of her original complaint; when my OH died I was just grateful that people had taken the time to write with comfort and condolence. I didn't go over the letters with a red marking pen.

I feel desperately sorry for the woman and I think she should be able to express her grief in any way she wishes.

However I think The Sun are using her grief to have a pop at Gordon Brown and I feel that is in poor taste.

Did the Prime Minister know that the call was being recorded? I thought it was illegal to record a telephone conversation without both parties being aware.

I agree with you. James seems to be more upset that the leader of the Labour party has been criticized than the grief of a mother who son has been killed. I assume James has never lost a son or daughter in Afghanistan so he should really reign it in a bit. I have turned over to Vanessa before I leave for work, I really can't be bothered to listen to him this morning.

The Sun should offer James a job as a games writer he might stop laying into them as much then, it worked with the Daily Mail. For the record both I buy neither paper.

I really wish he did have the balls to run for the Mayors job & be successful, then be subject to constant & petty personal attacks from rabid Left wing radio presenters & media hacks, then see how he'd react.

I thought it was a bit much today when he said Gordon Brown probably thought he'd had an invitation to the Berlin Ball.

It seems to be a bit of a grey area. You aren't allowed to pass any recordings you make to a third party but presumably that doesn't cover transcripts of the call.

I'm waiting for her to sue for monetary compensation.
Then she'll get a slagging from Steve Allen.

Then I guess the PM must have known it was being recorded. Perhaps he's going for the sympathy vote because he's getting plenty over apparently being stitched up.

G-S and Martin, was thinking the same - and that report from Times Online does say you can record for personal use and this clearly wasn't for personal use only. So the answer would have to be that Mrs Janes called the Sun when she was advised Brown was going to call her and invited them to come over and record it and that was all cleared with Downing St?
I feel very sorry for her but wish these things were being done in private.
