Thanks for responding.

I have my HDR Screen resolution as 16:9 Widescreen TV, and Display as 4:3, the TV is set to "Wide".

All other 4:3 progs switch and show normally, Inspector Morse on ITV3 this morning was OK.

Edit: I think I see what you are saying now, it is their fault, and my display will not auto switch correctly. I need to do it myself?

Rgds.

I'm afraid you do. I thought it might be this, but I use a different stb that doesn't autoswitch properly, so I'm used to things being out of whack and didn't want to make unfounded accusations.

A top outfit like CBS making basic signalling errors is a bit of shocker, I think.

And they should go back to 4:3 anyway. Problem solved!

Remember, CBS is just a brand they've slapped on these channels, they're still being operated by the same people.

CBS do have a feedback form...

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. It says there was a problem sending the message and to make sure I'd filled in the form properly. I put a genuine e-mail address in so I don't see what could be wrong.

Anyway, I'll post what I was going to say here in case they see it, or if anyone who agrees with me would like to have a go at the form themselves.

Hi,
Excellent start with the rare Star Trek pilot, but could you please show it in its original aspect ratio? Many of the shots feel 'too close' because we are missing the top and bottom of the picture.

It also seems the widescreen switching flag isn't working.

Finally, the logo is too big, and we don't need more of the picture spoiled with a 'premiere' logo.

Thanks for anything you can do!

Really? OK. I'd have thought CBS would be rather careful about what they let get put out with their name attached, so with any luck there will be extra QA at least to sort things out.

I notice that the Zone Thriller site is still up. It might be worth trying their form instead. It's certainly worked in the past because I've used it a few times and had responses.

CBS action is still messed up, indeed. They're showing a 16:9 programme in 4:3 - everyone's tall and thin.

They do have the ability to show stuff in 16:9 - CBS reality is showing a 16:9 programme properly.

I rather like the widescreen. At least it has been done intelligently. I suspect these programmes will be repeated many times. Perhaps they can show them in both aspects to please everyone some of the time.

What they were showing earlier was just messed up. Neither widescreen nor 4:3. It was a 16:9 programme shown in 4:3, resulting in everything being squished in and tall and thin.

Wouldn't have a problem if they were showing it in either proper widescreen or proper 4:3.

You'll likely have to hang fire if they are now implementing selected 16:9 play. UKTV and Virgins wasn't completely smooth in the transition. Eurosport did some trials too before it became the norm.

So Star Trek is cropped and there's no widescreen flagging - not the best of starts for CBS.

At least Zone Horror can broadcast in 16:9 now and have finally arrived in the 21st century.

I agree it isn't very user friendly.
I tried to use the feed-back page on their web site and had the same problem as others. Perhaps they got too much feed-back and turned it off!

Yep they done it again, ah well, were they mastered in 4:3 or all of them in this cropped 16:9?

They're showing the re-jigged 'special editions' as well. I was going to record them all to watch later but I don't think I'll bother now.

The Blu-Ray boxset is in the original 4:3 at least, and offers both versions. Maybe I'll rent that instead.

The BR versions of TOS are very good value IMO. You can get seasons 1 & 2 for £50 each. I paid that for TNG several years ago. Fans who have bought them speak very highly indeed about them. I checked out these CBS transmissions and was very disappointed with the cropping. Will not be watching again.

I just tried sending a test message and it appears to have been sent without error. I got

"Thanks for your message.

We will try and get a response to you as soon as possible."
