Those are HDD's final predictions. The actual Billboard charts come out tomorrow.

sorry not sure if these are the final figures

I've no idea how good that is in the current music sales market. I think in a week of big hitters releasing records, he's done pretty good. Seems in the U.S. that they're not really big into buying albums though? Maybe they prefer to download just one or two songs off an album?

I'm sure artists here have recently sold similar numbers, and look at the size of our little island!

Perhaps someone with better knowledge of the music market can elaborate some more on these numbers, are they OK or not that great?

I worked in HMV 20 years ago so my knowledge of how the record buying public differs from back then will be somewhat skewed. I think hitting gold and platinum status back then was far easier than what it is these days, especially for a new artist.

I must say though, that Monte, Tommy and Lisa really do remind me of some of the people I used to hang around with during my teens. Adam has a pretty cool band

eta: just saw your post BillieA. I know earlier predictions were around 200 -225k, so it could be likely that Adam will reach these numbers. Or does HDD sometimes overestimate the numbers? Could the album sales come in under that 195k?

With the exception of Andrea Bocelli and Rihanna, the big hitters have released greatest hits or rehashes of existing albums.

Album sales are generally higher here. Even the X Factor winners and runners-up here sell around the 300k mark in the first week. Leon and Steve were deemed to be poor sellers at c100k.

Actually hitting gold and platinum is easier now because they have lowered the thresholds considerably and even more so for singles.

HDD tends to overestimate its start of the week prediction by up to 40k so 195-200k would sort of tie in with a prediction earlier this week of around 230k. Strangely enough, Susan Boyle's and Andrea Bocelli's predictions are not higher than they were at the start of the week.

Without any promotion, that's very good.

When I was looking down the list and saw Lily Allen, I thought it was Kris. Then when I saw Flanagan & Allen, I thought the same again

Is it really easier to hit gold and platinum now? My memory's a little rusty, I remembered 500k was gold and 1m was platinum, but I may be wrong with that. What's the threshold now for these?

So SuBo's figures of 660+k for the U.S. are pretty damn plus her also hitting 440+k here.

I agree, I was pretty pleased about #87 for a non-promo'd album.

I didn't notice Lily/Kris/Flanagan & Allen at all

So are SuBo's figures of 660+k for the U.S. only? If so, that's pretty damn if she also hit 440+k here.
Yes, 660k is for the US alone. That's over 1m for just the UK and US combined, never mind all the other countries where she is No1.

From www.theofficialcharts.com

Q9. How many sales are needed for certified Gold/Silver/Platinum status?

A. BPI certified awards measure the British recording industry’s weekly singles & albums sales to UK retailers.

Certification Levels for singles are: Silver 200,000 / Gold 400,000 / Platinum 600,000

Certification Levels for albums are: Silver 60,000 / Gold 100,000 / Platinum 300,000

BPI certified awards were originally introduced in April 1973 to measure the performance of individual records based on sales to the trade each week.

Qualification for albums was initially on the basis of revenue received by manufacturers, and in January 1978 the BPI abolished the old monetary system for albums and replaced it with a unit system.

This brought album awards into line with singles and also with other countries where qualification levels are based on unit sales.

Multi-platinum awards, introduced in February 1987, are any multiple of the platinum level, e.g. album quadruple platinum status = 1.2m.

A little birdie tells me that there may be some promo over here in April next year, including from Adam in person. It may be that the 'international' version of the album is released then as well.

Subo's sales numbers are just

Thanks for the chart info Billie. I think our charts are much simpler to understand than the US!

On the interview with NZ radio he said that he had been discussing the promotion time line with the record company yesterday. We'll see. The UK and Japan are apparently where they are looking at first so it could be even sooner than April.

Yes I heard that too, which made me even wonder if it could be as early as Feb.

Thanks for the sales numbers - I knew I was way off with 500k/1m for gold & platinum. Told you my brain was a bit rusty

It would be nice to see Adam singing WWFM on Jonathan Ross' show. Of course, anywhere else is absolutely fine too

............. and the Graham Norton Show ............... and it's a shame the Paul O'Grady Show is coming to an end ................... and Al Murray (though he's not Queen, is he? ) ......................... and Loose Women (they loved him during AI) ...................... or he could have Torvill & Dean skating around him on Dancing on Ice (you can see I've been giving this too much thought ) ................ and This Morning ................... and GMTV .................. and they could even interview him on BBC Breakfast and find out that his name is actually Adam Lambert.

Final US billboard album figs in 199k & No 2 behind SuBo & Bocelli! Well done - a steady good start after slightly shaky beginning - we just needed him promoted over here now!

Or maybe he was actually No2 behind that well-known artist, Susandrea Boylelli.

Barry Manilow was asked about Adam during an interview as well and says some nice things about his voice -

I'm not sure what it had to do with him (and he's probably wondering the same thing!) but everyone wants to talk about Adam
