One advantage, of the mini-tv, is you do not lose the ability to instant rewind to the point when you tuned to whichever channel you are watching. That used to really bug me.

I have my box set for 60 min instant rewind. With the old EPG; if I pressed the TV guide button to check something, it reset the rewind to the point when I resumed watching. Now I no longer have this problem.

Although i love the new EPG i have noticed that my volume is very low, i used to have it set around 6 on my surround but now it's anything between 12-15. Not a major problem i know but thought i would mention it

What version box have you got? Didn't think Amstrads were being rolled out yet.

Did you get an email in advance about it?

Amstrad today!

My new EPG etc. was there for me to play with early this morning. I knew something was up as there was an announcement in a continuous play loop informing me of the changes to come. I also received an email with info & demo. Everything seems OK and I've managed to install ITV HD via the TellyToad hack. So that's good. Thanks for everyones input on this issue.

Okay so last night my sky was playing up kept freezing etc, and then today i got home and saw the new EPG for my Amstrad box.. and i've got to say.. I HATE IT ! It's just so awful and is really slow ! A lot of my recordings keep failing and my sky keeps freezing. The mini TV takes up to much room, as the actual planner is only like a tiny bit of the sreen. I usaully like change but this is just awful. RANT OVER

3002 Amstrad here and got the EPG yesterday...and also not liking it that much so far. A bit of a triumph of style over content IMO. Some handy features but none I'd say are worth losing the simplicity and spped of the old version for. It all feels strangely like my Humax HDR TBH.

Most of the 'issues' I have I'm sure I'll get used to with some familiarity, but the one thing that is really poor is the peak white background to all the OSD banners. Search & Scan, pause, play, shuttle etc. The old one was bad enough, but peak white?? Honestly.

I'd be delighted if somebody could tell me I'm an idiot and there is a transparency setting I've not found.....

The most annoying thing is that it has just made my sky soooo slow now, it never before had any problems. Also not a fan of the mini-tv at all, it takes up way to much room & i know you can take it off but you still have the background noise to the programme on.

Bit clunky

I've been using the new menu, EPG system for a few days and have to admit I find it a bit clunky. It's nowhere near as smooth & intuitive as the original easy see, easy use one. The mini TV's fine, but there's too many actions required to complete a simple task.I also have problems deleting a recorded programme that I've just watched. But if I had used only this one and never had experience of the other then I would be OK with it. The thing that comes to mind here is "if it a'int broke, don't fix it"

I like the 7 day search feature and the highlighted HD channels and for what it's worth ITVHD.
Wish they could of incorporated those into the old epg.

Have you tried rebooting the box i.e. turning it of at the mains, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it on again ? Sometimes that cures things.

Got my little black book yesterday, and a letter telling me I was getting the new epg, just three weeks after receiving my first copy, and a month after switching on one morning and finding a new epg without any warning whatsoever (see my post of 5 Nov.).

Right and left hands in their usual state of co-operation at Sky then!

so I made complaints to every available email address

Got two responces from Sky so far (EDITED RESPONSES by me to just the gist of it)

A)

we changed theTV guide to the new format will not be returning to the old format.

- SKY REP #1

B)

we're not going back to the old epg
- SKY REP #2

Talk about a brush off, but that was to be expected.

Hopefully people are doing in-depth reviews of the new hd epg on the different Brands of SKY HD box's will find out exactly how slow the response of the roll-over button graphic has on overal performance of the SKY HD box's.

Surely I cant be the only one who has this issue with my samsung 1.1.730 box

Fine by me. The new EPG has a few rough edges but hopefully those will be ironed out fairly soon. Overall it seems like an improvement to me - just not a very big one.

Probably not but I haven't read many complaints about it. The top menu is a bit sluggish but then I hardly ever use it. Stick to the shortcut buttons and it's not much different to the old EPG.

Got my new guide last night. Only gripe I have is that the text is so much smaller.

Actually it isn't - that's been disproved. It seems to be the colour scheme that makes it harder to read but my eyes adapted after a day or so.

generally there are some good new features of the new epg. it would be better if you could switch the mini tv off and on by pressing a key (like - say - yellow) at will... BUT
ACTUALLY I HATE THE NEW EPG because its so slow and unresponsive. I'm thinking of getting my PVR3 out and using that. Just need to hunt out some Scart leads
