looking for a 32" tv and sound system for round 1K
my 32" philips pixel+ set is heavily pixelating!
i sending it back to the mo'fo's in argos. (long storey) im looking for a good tv like panasonic or sony (32") with a good picture quality and average to shit sound combined with a sound system- i dont mind if the system hasnt got a DVD player built in. i've been tempted by John Lewis and Costco. they both offer a 5 year garuntee. i would like to make a saving in buying my equipment as a package instead of separatly. this pixel plus set is dreadful, it looks ugly, unbelievably pixelated blurrey picture shown. put me off philips for good. i want a modern tv which doesnt muck the picture up. |

What HiFi recommend the Panasonic TX28PS1, perhaps the 32" variant of that would suit you fine?
You should be able to get it between £650 and £750 which would leave you plenty of cash to get a sound system to go with it. I'd suggest definitely finding a store that will let you take a good look at the TV before you buy it - if you'd done that with the Philips then you would have seen whether you like it or not. For a home cinema in a box What HiFi recommend the JVC THA35, which they reckon you can get for £300, but which you could get for around £250 online. I have a Panasonic SCDT100, which you can get for around £250 as well, and I find it perfectly fine. Everyone has differing standards, though, so you really are best finding a store that will do a decent demo for you. You'll be lucky to find someone selling the exact package you want, but you might get lucky. John Lewis are generally pretty helpful, I have found in the past. Edit : Of course, having said about finding the exact package, I just went and looked at John Lewis and found this. |

thanks for ure help cerberus .
why is it that tv manufactures give different model numbers to the same spec'd tv's to different retailers? Quote:
this panny you mentioned looks alrite. i found it cheaper at here but i want a 5 year garuntee so i would want John Lewis to price match for the tv and the sound system. would they do this? |

The TX32PS1 and TX32PS12 are two different models. The PS12 has a 100Hz CRT.
I don't believe John Lewis, or any other high street retailer, will match web prices. John Lewis used to, but don't any more. You may find a local store that will do it though. What is also worthwhile though, is to check how much Domestic and General will charge for a 5 year guarantee for the TV and/or the sound system. Then compare the price of TV+guarantee to the John Lewis price, bearing in mind that John Lewis give a 2 year guarantee for the home cinema system. John Lewis will price match with other high street retailers though. Phone them and ask. Example: an extra 4 years guarantee for a Panasonic 32" TV will cost £112. I don't know how much this would be if you bought it through Panasonic. |
