Hellboy

Take a look at 'this' looks pretty impressive to me!!

About the movie:

Born in the flames of hell and brought to Earth to perpetrate evil, Hellboy was rescued from sinister forces by the benevolent Professor Broom, who raised him to be a hero. In Dr. Broom's secret Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.), Hellboy creates an unlikely family consisting of the telepathic "Mer-Man" Abe Sapien and "Pyrokenetic" Liz Sherman, the woman he loves who can control fire. Hidden from the very society that they protect, they stand as the key line of defense against an evil madman who seeks to reclaim Hellboy to the dark side and use his powers to destroy mankind.

Just got hold of the Region One DVD. Excellent film, humorous, action packed, superb effects/design and all together a great way to lose yourself in a movie for a while. Amusing commentary from the cast and Mike Migonla's DVD Comics on the disc are very nice. I'll even go and see it on the big screen in September. Roll on Hellboy 2 in 2006!

I have been waiting for Hellboy to come out for six long month since it was released in America in April. I still dont understand why we had to wait so long just to get the same version in the cinema as in the USA. The french dont get to see it till October but at least they the directors cut of the film in the cinema as we dont even get that!
I have tried to avoid buying the region 1 DVD as I would rather buy the extended DVD in October when it comes out in america and I want to see it on the big screen!
I surprised to see 3 trailers for Hellboy before Spiderman even though it seemed to make sense to show comic book film trailer before it. However lucky there was no Catwoman trailer just 3 Hellboy trailer!

have seen it and it is a blast...have not read the comic, but am led to believe it is fairly true to the original...some really good throw away lines, too.

They seem to be doing trailer overkill, I saw 4 trailers before spider-man2 and that seems enough to put anyone I know off saying, "that looks like Spawn"! Still
I'll watch it but then I've watched any comic book movies since the days 90% of them were rubbish.

I'm looking forward to this very much! Wish they'd hurry up and release the damn thing
Got pretty high hopes that it'll be smarter than yer average comic book adaptation... it's shame how often they stink.
Which is why I'm very glad that Sandman never got made in the end, I'd hate to see my favourite comic ruined on the big screen for all to see...

"Death: The High Cost of Living" is currently in active development...

I know what you mean: "Constantine" ("Hellblazer") looks like it might be an OK film, but its connection to the comics looks tenuous.

I was going to just get the R1 DVD of "Hellboy", as a protest against the ridiculous time it took us to get the movie, but (of course) now there's to be an extended edition .

Not that I approve of such shenanigans, but I can see why more and more people resort to downloading...

I'd heard about Death and I think that's got a pretty good chance on turning out ok... it's gonna be a much easier job I'd say when you've only got a two part story to work from (one graphic novel). Apartrently Neil Gaiman is not involved though, which does not bode well...

The reason I mention Sandman is that I did read a script: which apparently went down so badly that the project has been on the shelf ever since. Turning Dream into some sort of action hero? Honestly! It was awful stuff and I'm forever thankful that it did not get made. Now if Terry Gilliam ever wanted a crack at it that'd be a different matter!

The wait for Hellboy has been ridiculous - as far as I know, the idea was that we would get the extended version on the big screen here but I think that idea has been dropped now

(btw, Keanu as John Constantine? NOT happy )

Last I heard Neil Gaiman was involved in Death, in fact he's the director!

I too had heard that NG was being considered as the director for "Death". I thought that maybe the Powers That Be were waiting to take a look at "MirrorMask" (if it ever comes out) before making a decision.

binty: I don't suppose that "Sandman" script is on the net anywhere? Keanu as JC is an affront, but I've heard the movie may not be too bad (as a horror film - it sucks as a "Hellblazer" adaptation!).

Back to "Hellboy", one of the reasons for the delay was that "no-one in the UK knows who Hellboy is". Have things really changed since March?

Did most of Americ know who Hellboy is? It probably took a long time as they didn't want it going up against 1. Euro 2004 then 2. The big summer films, guess that goes for the punisher as well.

Hellboy is a really good film, kinda a dark Men in Black meets Daredevil meets LXG. Really enjoyed the movie so duid the missus and she isnt into horror all that much.

Its dark comic violence so easy on the eye.

Punisher is fantastic watched it about 20 times. Even encoded it onto my nokia 6600 for those awful commutes to work. Shame its not out at the cinema til late 2004 here.

Hellboy 2 is also in production so I have high hopes.

You're right... I was thinking of Good Omens!
(btw, that Sandman script: there are two scripts floating around on tinternet as far as I know... one is not sooo bad, the other is awful. I bet they're still knocking around somewhere. The one I read was bloody awful though, Dream kicks a$$ and gets the girl basically )

Found a "Sandman" script. Not read it yet, but it's authors claim everybody (apart from the studio) loved it, so it may be the OK one. I'll have to keep an eye out for the other.

The one you really want to avoid was by William Farmer (I've just found out).
Can't find a link to it though. Which is probably for the best.
Looks like there were about 5 different scripts at one point... seems like the above was the worst of the bunch though (certainly the one Gaiman hated the most: enough to publicly state that it was the worst script he'd ever read!)

Just got to go back to this....
