If you like to "download" regularly, then no way. If you're just in to surfing the Internet - a bit of streaming now and again [not as in now and again during the day] - and downloading a few albums, then yes, it's an okay limit to have.
Edit: I've just seen the whole of your post. I guess I just guessed what you were talking about. If your family's very active with the Internet, you might want to upgrade. See how it goes first though. Like you say, if you'll need to upgrade at a later date you can always get in touch and ask them to place you on a higher bandwidth package. |

I think you would not be able to do it with the 10gb, I have twice as many kids, well a 13 year old and 3 adults all at home and I struggle to stay inside a 40GB limit. They have only sent me one warning for going over by 47GB didn't charge but said they would if I did it again but only £5 extra. I read somewhere on their forum that a few were warned and that it may me a mistake on their part and that all limits were cancelled until they brought out a new bandwith monitor that people could use. TT by the way. The 3 options on their web page do not excite me and for value are one of the costliest deals around. Up to 20MB speed , 2 kids with x-boxes and yourself You really need more than 10GB .... unless the connection is really slow as well .

Check your local exchange on the Sam knows website to confirm ifyour exchange is "unbundled". If it is the same service then you have a few days to change from BT. BT wholesale had some problems recently as reprted by Plusnet. http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...band/m-p/11386 |

lol, Karoo acidentally reset my download limit to zero last month, so I got this month's Internet for free! And the usual 10GB limit is ignored too.
![]() Lucky really, because I barely stayed under my limit for September. |

Rang BT up tonight ......yes i did get through ......well after waiting 12 mins (not bad)
Lady said that as far as she was aware 10gb would be enough with my family and she has only heard of two people getting warnings via email and they were never charged. Like someone has already said on this thread, how can you be charged for using to much when BT do not give you any software to monitor how many GB you are using. Whats stopping them saying i used 30gb over what i should have used and charging me for it, could i complain and howc ould i or BT prove otherwise ps thanks for the replies but alas i am unsure, its not like i can go back to Virgin as they do the same sort of packages George |

The things that eat into broadband limit include watching catch-up TV online and downloading lots of film and music files (legally or otherwise). If your family can avoid that kinda thing you might be able to stay within the limits. I know other providers like TalkTalk offer an initial 40GB when you take up their phone service as well but I don't know if they offer that standalone.

Hi GeorgeL, if you go over the 10gb monthly usage allowance you will receive an email to your primary BT email address to advise you that you may want to upgrade your package. If this is repeated in the next month/s you would be charged for every GB used.

nice to see bt replying on this forum, they dont do that on their own,,
10 gig is not enought, it is not a download limit it is a USAGE limit, that is every webpage you look at is included i am on bt broadband and i wish i stayed well away, 10 gig to start untill i found out about the usage, so i had to go on unlimited, which may not be "unlimited" cos theres a 100 gig limit sorry for hijacking the thread, but why cant bt answer on their own forum ????? |

I use the free version of this:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network...NetMeter.shtml It shows your download speed and if you right click on the icon on the taskbar and select totals, you can see how much you've downloaded over a day, month etc. I can use 1GB in a day if I watch a few You Tube videos and a program or two on the likes of iPlayer and 4OD. |

It can't determine what any other PC on the router is doing so you would have to install it on every PC/laptop/whatever and go round adding up all the totals by hand. Which could be a minus factor in some households. On the plus side however it would show up which machine is hogging all the bandwidth and eating up an unfair proportion of the monthly allowance

Thanks again for the replies but like i mentioned before, how can BT bill you for the amount you use over ......I have no way of knowing what i have used and BT can simple pluck a figure out of thin air.
If BT want to go down this road surely they must offer their customers a meter on there hub to tell the customer how much they have used. If i wanted to say i didn't use that amount how do BT prove it Hoping BT again can come and answer this George |

George you can see what you have used by logging into the Homehub with the hub manager, click on settings then advanced settings then click on broadband and it shows how much MB's has been sent and recieved.
