Not really. Sainsburys are advertising their Christmas turkeys on TV and the shops are selling Santa hats.

Radio 1 started playing Christmas songs on November 3rd...

If it is anything to go by last year...then you will hear christmas tracks constantly until January. Reach for the 'OFF' button or re-tune to XFM or 'The Arrow' (you will be safe)

Christmas songs are bad enough in shops without them being played on the radio constantly. I sympathise with you as I dont do christmas whatsoever. (and not for religious reasons) I can't wait for a months time when it will almost be over.

So, what do you expect FGS?

You listen to a station that is part of the "regime radio, so-and-so FM, 1st with the hits along with all the others, 1st with the biggest prizes along with all the others; the best giveaways, the biggest cash payouts, the best DJs along with all the others, the most variety like all the others, the best music mix like all the others."

I think your DS name says it all; a complete marketing man's dream!

I went to kerrang last week with a group of my students for a tour and we were told they operate a no Christmas songs policy! Wish at least one of the big supermarkets would do the same!

I'm adding them to my music station ready for Midnight December 1st - they will be on the playlist until New Years Eve.

Lol Andy - Xfm has been playing "Winter Winds" by Mumford and Sons since mid November.. which as they have said themselves is effectively a Christmas single

I started playing winter but not Christmas songs e.g. A Winter's Tale (doesn't mention Christmas anywhere) straight after the Autumn equinox and will keep them on the playlist until the Spring Equinox. Also had Gabriella Cilmi's Warm This Winter on since then as I feel it is more a winter song than a Christmas song. - The only mention of Christmas is the line "Each night is New Years Eve, Each Day is Christmas Day".

I add themed songs to celebrate each of the seasons e.g. Paolo Nutini's Autumn - which comes off the playlist tomorrow.

I think you'll find that most of the larger groups stations will start playing Xmas songs this weekend at the latest... then they'll start introducing them over the next week or so as we get into December, and ramp up the number of them per day as we get closer to Xmas... I'm not one for celebrating Xmas from October (and think that should actually be discouraged!) but I don't think that playing a single xmas song (or even a couple per day!) from this weekend is out of order... After all, it's under 4 weeks away now...

Oh, and Kerrang isn't the only station to do a "no Xmas songs" policy... Rock Radio Manchester, Scotland and NorthEast DAB did it last year, and I'm pretty sure will do it again this year....

Thank god others are like me. I hate this time of the year too and tend to avoid the radio during December. I don't do Xmas either, not for religious reasons, i'm just a miserable sod!

Nice, Rock Radio or Kerrang it is for me for the next month then. Any other stations to add to the "bah humbug" list?

In years gone by Christmas started on 25th December and ended 12 days later on twelfth night the day before Epiphany (song 'The twelve days of Christmas').

Nowadays it seems to start on October and continue up until Christmas Eve!!!

However, today is the first Sunday in Advent so I am happy to hear Seasonal Music gradually introduced from now until Christmas.

The start of Advent varies though from November 27th - December 3rd so I think Midnight December 1st - the start of winter - is the right time to start playing Christmas tunes.

I am all for Christmas songs, but it is a bit ridiculous to hear them on the radio too far before Christmas.

By the time Christmas comes everyone is fed up of hearing them!

It never surprises me just how narrow minded Digital Spy 'listeners' are.

It's less than a month to Christmas. It's the end of the month. Statistics say that a large percentage of people in this country get paid at the end of the month so this is the first weekend that people are going to properly go out and do their christmas shopping because they have the money to do it. Real Radio is aimed at females, females will be organised enough to start doing the shopping now. People are getting into the christmas mood because of it.

Its called basic radio programming.

Carry on Real Radio, you're doing the sensible thing to reflect the majority of the populations mood. I'm sure the jam packed car park at Meadowhall today (my local shopping mecca) were delighted. there's a fine line between 'a sprinkling' of christmas songs and a slight overkill but Real are certainly not doing so.

Get a grip OP. Christmas might not be for you but thank god you're not programming Real.
