Essex Radio

Hi everyone.

I have been a long time reader of this site and interested in many opinions expressed and I have learnt a lot.

I won't bore you too much about the history but about three years ago my friend Ben and I started doing some pilot radio shows and sent them around. We did not hear anything back but kept going to no avail.

This year we became more inspired with the demise of our local radio station Essex FM, and decided to set up our own internet station.

Well, its taken weeks of work and time but tonight at 8pm, we are relaunching our internet version of

Essex Radio.
Strapline: The alternative to bland radio....

I am not going to discuss the pros and cons of Heart as each to their own, but we missed the way radio used to be and are trying to do our little bit to make a little difference.

Any support or feedback will be gratefully received.

I have looked at why some internet stations fail and therefore have made the decision that we will loop programming on a 7 day loop. However I can still move music around to make it more random and if the station takes off we will do more new and live shows.
It will be running 24/7 for a trial period of three months. Our money will run out then unless we can secure some advertising.

Website is essex-radio.co.uk

Hope some may be able to listen and we're check the forums later and say hello if you've posted anything.

Kind regards

Jamie

I think you are infringing a trademark and in any case you are at risk of getting a knock on the door from Global - I'd use the name Essex Sound, otherwise you might find yourself on the receiving end of legal threats and possible court action.

Senior management in Global monitor these forums every day so I've been told.

Same with 210 changing to 2-TEN FM but no one can use it.

I think that's daft if the station is no longer using that name!

Essex FM doesn't exist now anyway.

I like your suggestion of Essex Sound

We did speak to someone at global and they advised us that the name is no longer theirs and they only owned Essex FM.

A check of their website also confirmed it was not one of their listed 'trademark names.

I stand to be corrected.

Interesting - you might still have problems.

For instance I created SKYWAVE RADIO in 1996 long before anyone else did (I have the tapes demonstrating that we used the name from that time), Cable Radio in East Sussex rebranded as SkyWave Radio around 2000. The station has since closed down and the name is not trademarked however to avoid any potential problems I have renamed it SKYWAVE - EUROPE'S GREATEST HIT RADIO STATION.

Skywave? I've never heard of it!

What kind of music does it play?

Well we're not trying to annoy anyone or any company, just indulging a hobby. If there are issues we're look to resolve them asap.

Technically the station is known as essex-radio.co.uk as its only internet based but we say essex radio as its easier.

After three months I'd imagine we will not broadcast anymore.

Thank you anyway for the support.

Shame it's not available on FM and DAB. Essex could do with a good station rivaling the appalling Heart.

Adult variety hits - like JACK FM but I thought I'd have a go at trying to do even better.

At the moment it's just on Spotify as I haven't got enough money to rent a flat let alone set up an internet station, but otherwise I'm treating it like a proper music as far as I can. One day though I'd really like to have some decent sung jingles!

It's all over the internet and sometimes comes #1 on Google

BTW this is my new station logo - it's a bit crap but it was the best I could do on MS paint - you get the idea though. The name is supposed to look graffittied.

Hey...this is very interesting! A local station for Essex?

Although im a Kent lad, I will be tuning in for sure!

I am now a fan of your Facebook Page.

Maybe a tagline along like: "Pure Music, Purely For Essex".

So, you have all of the records you need for a radio station then?

Please be sure to play some of my favourites like:

Lighthouse Family
The Beautiful South
Calvin Harris
Texas

I hope you manage to get on air on normal radios. I will preset you, if you do!

It's strange that they told you that.

The company "Essex Radio Limited" is still registered at Companies House (Reg no 00670633) as a trading company.

It's wholly owned by GWR East Holdings Limited, which in turn is owned by Global Radio UK Limited.

In which case you are not allowed to use it in the UK and they can sue you if you do. Best to change the name as quickly as possible.

Essex Sound, Essex Digital, Essex Music is cool.

I also launched Thames FM on July 12th 1996 in front of some friends - we used a strange mix of BBC Midlands jingles, Spire FM's news jingle and Channel 5 news LOL! Still got the tape somewhere.

I was really annoyed when I heard Thames FM on 107.8 and how rubbish it sounded!

I also invented Berkshire FM - 87.2 FM

- I thought well as the Japs start from 76.0 so should we!

I drew a beautiful Berkshire FM logo with the Uffington White Horse and the rolling downs.

Berkshire FM was part of the County Radio Group.

It all started off though as KTR (Kennet, Thames & Reading) 103.7 FM and was renamed Berkshire FM after the merger of Radio Berkshire and Radio Oxford into Thames Valley FM.

I had a great time running and presenting on all these imaginary radio stations with my mate - got loads of tapes from it all.
