Sky Football First - Not on SS1? What was Sat night's full game?

Mmm, after setting my DVD recorder to record the match on Saturday, I was instead greeted with three hours of golf.

What was Sat night's full game? Was keeping a record of all the games shown, so if anyone saw it.....

I thought $ky were meant to have all the Premierships games on SS1. Even yesterday, Chel$ki's game was on SS2.

No red button on ntl, now no footy! Guess I'll have to get SS2 as well as SS!now

Unlucky mate. The game was the West Brom v Fulham game. Pretty good game - it finished 1-1 with 3 sent off and a missed penalty.

Cheers! Saw the highlights on MoTD, a game with everything from the looks of it, including a punch-up!

Would have been the one I'd have chosen if I had the blasted red button

I believe this is a marketing ploy by Sky to get people to pay for SS2, they do it with a few of there products. Have them scattered all over the place, it messes up my series link for WWE. They probally realised people are only subscribing to Sky Sports 1 and 3. so moved some of there major programming to sky sports 2

No they did it because Sky's contract for the Ryder Cup specifies that it must be shown on the (premium) channel with the highest potential audience. That is Sky Sports 1.

I think they cut out the unnecessary bits. i.e when the balls out of play and goalkeepers are retrieving it for a goal kick or a player is getting it for a throw in and the time taken to line up the wall ect. This probably adds up to around 5min per half.

So doesn't their Champions League contract specify that? That's on SS2 & SSX.

Can't understand why for us poor souls without red buttons they don't use SS1 on CL nights, especially when 3 British clubs play. Instead they have the results service on SSN AND SS1.

And yes, I could get a dish, but that's another argument I've had on numerous threads

They could show a whole game in less than a hour if they cut out all stoppages. However in the last couple of weeks Fulham have provided a lot of unmissable action during the stoppages

Personally I find the repeats better as there is no pre-match/half-time/full-time banter, and I can see the game in 90 minutes (or less than an hour for the later games). Only trouble is avoiding the results all day, but with a five year old and a three month old, I don't have much time for TV until the evening.

Tonight's Game Of The Day is Manchester City versus Arsenal, and it's back on Sky Sports 1.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I'm not usually around on a Saturday night, but is the format "Press Red" AFTER the "Game of the Day"?

Yeah - the Game Of The Day starts at 8:30pm, then at 10:15pm when that's done, you get a choice of all the games, and those with Sky Digital get to choose which game they watch with the red button. Those without are stuck with the first option, which will probably be Spurs/Man United tonight, I think.

Silly question but how did you find that out so early (posted @ 5.50) ? I never know what the game of the day is until 8.25. At which point I curse $ky for showing Man U again

However they haven't been on for a couple of weeks now, and I fully expected their game v Tottenham to be the game of the day.

Weren't too many great games this Saturday. Four 1-0s, two 1-1 draws and Liverpool/Newcastle dominating relegation fodder.

And next week there are just four games kicking off at 3pm on Saturday. An all-time low ?

Maybe on $ky, but they don't do it on ntl.

Cheers!

Only four games on this Saturday at 3pm! Suspect Arsenal will be the main game as Chel$ki, Man U, Newcastle & Liverpoo play on Sunday.

So......

Arsenal v Charlton
Blackburn v Aston Villa
Everton v Tottenham
Norwich v Portsmouth

Depends if it's the best game. They will choose the one with the highest score / most action not the one with the biggest potential audience.

Does anyone know if the will be having highlights of the 3 games on Sunday?
Two of them aren't getting shown and I think it would be sensible to use the football first format for these games as well

Any help would be gladly appreciated
Thanks

So Arsenal v Charlton was the as live game, easy win for the leaders (OK, three great goals as well), whereas Norwich v Pompey, exciting 2-2 draw, Norwich hitting Xbar in last minutes was relagated to main game on 10.15 show.

And on Sunday, Man U v Mboro was shown (no red button on ntl ), whereas arguably Blackburn v Newcastle was the more exciting game.

I think the biggest audience is all that matters. The only times two smaller clubs have featured as the as live game was when Man U, Chle$ki & Arsenal all played in live games.

So expect Arsenal v Aston Villa as the as live game in two weeks time (Man U & Chel$ki are live on PPV)

PS $ky are already talking about this Man U v Arsenal game in Three weeks time! Obviously not bitter about not having the England v Wales game next week

He was referring to Sunday's start time, which was 10pm...

I was. (Having been billed as 10.30 in all the newspapers, it was moved forward by 30 minutes on the Sky Guide)

Sorry, misread it.

Basic rule is that if there is a game played on anyday that us not transmitted live (PPV or Sky Sports) there will be a football first programme. Though the timing (and channel as I sadly discovered) of it is down to $ky schedules.
