I have had the KV-32FQ86 for a number of weeks now (with newest v11.48 software) and I have to say i'm really pleased with the set overall - nice vibrant colours, fairly good geometry, etc..

Except one irritating problem...

When you are using the rear SCART inputs (there are 3 in total, 2 RGB and 1 Composite) - you can see on the screen some kind of interference or something, consisting of two vertical lines around an inch and a half thick, and some faint kind of 'fuzz' type pattern moving down the screen.

This problem really isn't noticeable (the lines and fuzz are extremely faint in everyday use) until you watch in the dark, you must be watching either a dark or murky scene to appreciate the problem. Then the lines become a little irritating at times (one seems more prominent than the other).

For any owners of this set I have found that tuning to a blank freeview channel so the screen is black, but there is an input still going to the TV), and then turning up the brightness to around 70 shows the problem fairly drastically, either in bright or dark lighting conditions. There are other ways of testing the input of course, but generally turning up the brightness on a black or dark scene really shows up the problem.

Also, in RGB mode the fuzz moves downwards, but if you switch to Composite mode the fuzz type pattern does not move.

I'm really not sure what to do about this problem, its confused me totally!

I shouldn't think the SCART cables are the problem, as I forked out for an entire set of THOR interconnects for each component.

I have also tried unplugging everything and putting components back in one at a time, but to no avail - the two lines and fuzz are still there when using the rear SCART's.

Just for reference if I use the S-VIDEO or Y/C outputs on the 'front' of the set the lines and interference do not exist (it seems, my XBOX is running through S-VIDEO on the front and it looks great), so it leads me to believe there is a problem isolated to the rear SCART sockets somewhere.

Can anyone help me with this one?

I'd really appreciate some suggestions or feedback - before I attempt to take it to a Service Agent (i'm on the 3rd floor of the house, its a heavy set to take back downstairs - plus I don't fancy paying Sony £37.60 to come and collect the thing )

Im guessing it's the RF channel number. Pull out the RF lead and watch a DVD or prerecorded video through scart) and see if the problem still exists.

If it goes away the problem is with the RF lead and you will need to change the channel on which the tuner picks up freeview. Should find this easily in the manual.

If problem persists............remove scarts and watch a digital terrestrial prog and check again...............

If prob goes away.....its the scart leads..........

If still there...................post again!

I think you may have ruled this out, but I mention it as much for other people reading.......

On most of the Sony TVs (probably all makes, but I don't own those !) the front AV sockets are a shared input to one of the rear SCARTs. If anything is connected in the front and the back at the same time, all hell can be let loose - even with one switched off.

I use the front with my playstation, but must remember to remove it before trying to watch a DVD etc. (and, of course, before my 1 year old destroys the cables !)

(I do get a similar thing from cross talk between the scarts as well - I have to select a blank DDT channel when watching DVD for best quality - but you've ruled that out as well I think)

Off topic slightly... but I'm thinking about getting the same telly as you... KV-32FQ86. Where did you get it from, how much, etc? If you got it online, what experiences do you have?

Basically I'm looking to get it online from Electricaldiscount.co.uk or empiredirect, etc. but a bit wary of buying from the web given the costs involved so want some experiences.

if you have a DECT telephone try to move the base receiver away from the TV. I heard this cures similar "horizontal lines" effects on the Sonys.

Well, in answer to your question about the set the KV-32FQ86 is generally a great set for me, apart from the above problem.

I purchased mine from www.indigo-av.co.uk and have found them to be very helpful, so give them a go?

As for the suggestions to a solution, thanks for those - I tried unplugging the phone (its one floor below, but its not a DECT phone), but to no avail. I've pretty much tried everything I can but its no good so far.

HowieC suggests that this is a technical fault that Sony apparently now know about, hopefully he will post an update soon.
