The Sun readers survey picks Holby City as the BBC soap they most want axed

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2004580461,00.html

Axe Amanda and Brucie

HERE is the news for the BBC - Sun readers want to boot Bruce Forsyth and Amanda Holden off the telly.

Auntie announced a huge shake-up last week in a bid to improve their programming so we invited you to decide which stars and shows should face the axe.

Thousands of you cast your vote in The Sun's very own Beeb Brother poll.

In the presenter category, Strictly Come Dancing presenter Bruce received a whopping 20.9% of the vote.

And Cutting It actress Amanda Holden notched up 22.3 per cent of the actors' vote.

In the interests of better broadcasting, we sent our results to the BBC headquarters - and they promised to take our findings on board.

A BBC spokesman said: 'We welcome all comments from our audience because they are the people we need to listen to.

'But some of the results are a surprise - 11.2million people enjoyed Bruce Forsyth on Strictly Ballroom Dancing on Saturday.

'This just goes to show how different people's tastes are. Our Director General Mark Thompson will obviously be taking an interest in the results.'

With 42.2 per cent of the vote, Holby City is the most unpopular soap opera. Silent Witness did the best out of any category - NONE of you wanted to see it axed.

And Fame Academy in the entertainment section got the biggest percentage 'ditch it' vote, with 45.7 per cent.

Full soap results :

SOAPS

Holby City - 42.2%

Casualty - 30.5%

EastEnders - 25%

Doctors - 2.3%

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I actually thought EE might be the BBC soap most people would want axed despite being the most watched as well all know it's having a pretty poor year.

Is Holby good? I have honestly never seen one episode. I haven't watched Casualty in years as, for me, compared to ER it's nowhere near as good. Bodies on BBC2 is an excellent hospital drama that could easily be on BBC1 instead.

In the actors category, Jessie was the person people least wanted axed. I'm not surprised. I always liked Jessie. They should have kept Alfie and Kat together. -

ACTORS

Amanda Holden (Cutting It) - 22.3%

Robert Lindsay (My Family) - 18.7%

Nigel Harman (EastEnders) - 16.3%

Sarah Parish (Cutting It, Blackpool) - 13.1%

Martin Shaw (Judge John Deed) - 12.1%

Tamzin Outhwaite (Red Cap) - 10.1%

Jessie Wallace (EastEnders) - 7.4%

Holby probably will be axed in the future, but no time soon.

Considering 8 million people watch it, I don't think the poll reflects public opinion, then this is a poll from the Scum part of the news corp well known for hating the BBC (probably jealousy, the state Sky is in) they probably made up the results themselves, wouldn't suprise me.

If Heartbeat (the friggin yawnfest it is) has lasted this long, I'm sure Holby will be on for another century! (well maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration)

- The Scum really really need to get their "facts" right!
I thought it was common knowledge that Tamzin Outhwaite's drama 'redcap' had been axed for ages now!

I agree with Bruce Forsyth being unpopular, though I'd rather watch him than Ant & Dec.

you know what they should do...they should consider making the Casualty/Holby City merger at christmas a permanent thing...they are set in the same hospital after all!

First off all:

- Robert Lindsay is already leaving My Family in 2005, so he may be off elsewhere (some where other than the BBC) to further his career.
- The Beeb axed red cap this year because it was too expensive to produce and Tamzin has found a new home on ITV.
- Despite what you hear elsewhere, Director General Mark Thompson has already axed Fame Academy along with most of the home/garden make over shows e.g. Changing Rooms, Big Strong Boys etc....

So the whole thing was more than pointless.

However, I suspect the 'voting' was done via a premium rate phonecall/text msg system.

So, whilst it's pointless to bother giving the 'results' to the BBC, and I'm sure they carefully filed these away in the bin when they received them, for The Sun I'm sure it made more than a tidy profit...

I watched a bit of Holby last night (nothing else on) for the first time - since everyone raves about KH's work on there I wanted to see what it was like.

IMO it was very disappointing. The acting and writing was so predictable and cliched it was like watching a current episode of EastEnders. So at least KH will be at home there.

As the majority of the idiots who waste money on the Sun can't read anyway, they probably thought that the numbers to call and vote were actually sexlines. Seeing as they are obviously incapable of getting any in reality and therefore resort to the Sun for relief.

Oh, has the "reading" age of the Sun gone up then? Back in 1994, it was calculated as being age 7 level.

OMG!

I love Holby.

Holby and Casualty are the only things I watch on BBC One.

Apart from the odd bit of Eastenders just as it's finishing but during that time. I'm normally getting ready for it. So I don't see it. Phew!

Casualty is classed as a soap as it is on our screens for most of the 52 weeks in the year!... and i'm sure Holby are trying to do the same, with having episodes every week in the year!

I really cannot see them axing EE, Holby nor Casualty.....

I love Holby City!

I started watching it a few years ago when I was pregnant, and every week they would have a "birth story gone wrong". I then started crapping myself about my upcoming baby's birth seeing all these potential disasters

But as Huch'net says, surely if yawnfest Heartbeat has lasted this long, then Holby will be safe for a good few eons yet

I wouldn't consider the following programmes as soaps:

Casualty
Holby City
The Bill

okay "continuing drama".... I hate the word soap, it's so american...
soap is a dirty word...
but all three (The Bill, Holby, Casualty) are all on, for the 52 weeks in the year! and thats what the TPTB call 'soaps'....

Corrie, EE, Emmerdale are "Continuing" Drama Serials!

All Continuing Dramas appeal to different audiences! -

Actually, at the moment, Casualty is not on 52 weeks a year (it just seems like it sometimes). I think it has roughly a 46 week year at the moment - this year it was difficult to tell because of the European Cup and the Olympics which bumped it off it's spot for a few weeks.

I believe the plan for next year is to run it every week though, which is a mistake because I used to like the summer break which normally had a big cliffhanger (like Charlie having a heart attack, one of the nurses falling off a balcony etc.) and then having to wait to find out what happened.

sorry, I did say in an earlier post, that they were on for the majority of the year, I guess I must've omitted 'majority' from the post above..

but I agree, it does seem like they are on... all the time!
In oz they have a break for all dramas, they stop airing in mid december and then bring them back in February...
maybe EE, Corrie, Emmerdale, The Bill, Holby, Casualty et al should do the same?
