Wives go head to head for EastEnders role - Soaps

THE biggest transfer in soapland is on. Ex-Footballers' Wives star Susie Amy has gone into extra time with the show's current babe Caroline Chikezie for a a coveted role in EastEnders.

The pair both have the same goal - to bag the part of the girlfriend of Albert Square's new gangster Johnny Allen, played by former Bill actor Billy Murray.

Susie, who played fiery Chardonnay Pascoe in the hit ITV1 sex-and-soccer drama, showed off her skills at an audition for the soap's executive producer, Kathleen Hutchison, this month and sources say she was right on target.

Last night a show spokesman confirmed: "Susie has met show execs, as has Caroline. However, we haven't decided who's going to play the character at this stage."

An insider tells us: "The part of Johnny Allen's girlfriend is going to be huge and whoever lands it will be up there with the likes of Jessie Wallace and Michelle Ryan in terms of their profile.

"Both Susie and Caroline are talented actresses and hungry for the part. They would both bring some real glamour to the show and choosing between them is going to be so hard.

"The producers have decided to bring in fresh characters to spice things up and this one will be central to the new storylines.

"Bosses are determined not to have another year like 2004. There's a positive vibe on set and a real feeling that we've turned the corner. Bringing in fresh blood is just part of the whole new regime."

Since she quit Footballers' Wives in 2003, Susie - who is dating actor Max Beesley - has been trying to build a Hollywood career and has found some success in mini-series and films.

Im not the biggest FWs fan but I think the girl who played Chardonnay would be great in EastEnders. It sounds like whoever gets this role, are gonna be big stars of Eastenders this year.

Susie Amy is the most glamourous no doubt about it but I don't think she is a very good actress. I hope she gets it above the other girl and I hope she proves me wrong with her acting abilities!

i dont think Caroline would be good for the part, i dont think she looks very glamorous really whereas Susie Amy is stunning and you could see her playing this kind of part! Go Chardonnay!!!!

Ya, I want Susie to be chosen to, the other one seems too gangster like. But I'm not bothered either way they both look like they'd settle in to Albert Square very nicely.

i think it needs some strong female characters especially seeing as they have lost Kat and Sharon, they were both good strong characters (well before Kat became all whiny and clingy to Alfie)

Because it is going to be such a big role, there have been many rumours of who is going to play her, and as said bosses want to get it right for this year. She's going to be one hell of a bitch I bet!

Her part & storylines were already being written way back in October, they just need to get the woman casted!

Oh this is great Susie Amy would be great ony thing Johnny will get with Pat so I'm guessing by the age the woman will be his daughter not girlfriend.

but didn't Suzy Amy leave footballers wives 'cos she thought she was bigger than Britain, didn't she go off to the U.S. to persure a hollywood career?!
I think she's come back to Britain with her tail between her legs and thats the reason footballers wives killed her off in the first place 'cos her ego was too big.

If we are going on pure talent I would say Caroline. I liked Susie as Chardonnay but I think Caroline was the better actress out of the two.

Personally think Susie wasn't the best actress on Footballers' Wives (and that's saying something) but inEastenders she would look like an Oscar winner against some of the cast. she could fit in.
