New Dance Music Channel?

On OFCOMS new licence page there is a listing for BPM TV a childrens/youth entertainment channel. I can't find any website for the British Channel but did find a Canadian channel:

"bpm:tv presents exciting and unique programming on, in and about the worldwide explosion of dance, urban dance and club dance culture. bpm:tv introduces Canadians to a television channel showcasing artists like MC Mario, Tiesto, Dirty Vegas, Aphex Twin and Milk Inc., as well as progressive music labels like ID&T, Popular, SPG and Mute that are otherwise unavailable on Canadian television dials. Dance is the world's fastest growing music genre. bpm:tv is the only network whose focus is totally dedicated to the culture of movement (language, activity, fashion, dance) and dance music, a previously untapped genre of music and music videos."

I wonder if this will be the same, though it's described as a childrens channel too by Ofcom which might be just a quirk of the way OFCOM categorise music channels.

Just what we need... Another dance channel...

How about filling the EPG with channels covering other genres like jazz, country and heavy metal, instead of repetitive dance that requires no musical talent whatsoever to create, just a computer.

MTV Dance has gone right down hill in my opinion, never listen to it anymore.

I know about them, but they're not really 'Dance' channels...

MTV Dance - OK from 8pm-6am, other times it's pop.

KISS - About 95% urban.

Fizz - Only after 9pm, and they're showing Rapture's old music videos which although good are now at least 7 months out of date.

Would very much like to see CMT back. And some *proper* dance, none of that crap from the US called R&B. Why do channel bosses think dance fans like that R&B crap?

Another? There isn't any! Only half a channel, MTV Dance, and it doesn't show what it should!

Ok for other genres, but you cannot say dance music is made by people with no talent, just computer!
Take your computer and start doing it, so... Now that it's so easy!
If you just don't like dance music, that's ok, but what you said above is not true.
There is a lot of talented people in dance music, among others Paul Van Dyk, DJ Tiesto, Push, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Schiller, Jam & Spoon, Westbam, Thrillseekers, James Holden...
Just an example, listen to this if you can: MOTORCYCLE - As The Rush Comes (Armin Van Buuren remix), pure emotion and energy.
Lovers of this kind of music deserve and must pretend a channel where they play those artists, now that digital era can offer 1000s of channel, 90% of which are crap. Too many music channels today just show pop and that much hated crappy r'n'b and hip-hop from the US, we've had enough!
We want a real dance music channel! Will that ever happen?

Kiss is actually 100% hip-hop and R&B, they dont play any dance now. Dont know if thats true of the radio station, but certainly I havent seen them play a dance video for months.

MTV was the best when it was MTV Europe back around 95 to 98. then it went very crap when it went to MTV UK and there is no more MTV Europe now as most places have there own MTV channel like France and Germey.

VH1 Europe appears a lot, since hardly any countries have their own.
MTV Europe is still in Scandanivia (All countries soon to get their own) and in a lot of eastern/southern Europe.

No, in Scandinavia they have MTV Nordic since 1998, although it's quite similar to MTV European (not called MTV Europe anymore).
MTV European is still available in Iceland, Luxembourg, Malta, Greece, Czech republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Israel, Egypt and South Africa.

All other european countries have their own version.

MTV Europe started splitting into different services with the launch of MTV Germany (also for Austria and Switzerland) on 1.1.1997.
And following:

MTV UK & Ireland - 1.7.1997
MTV Italy - 1.9.1997
MTV Nordic (for scandinavian and baltic countries) - 8.7.1998
MTV France - 19.6.2000
MTV Polska - 8.7.2000
MTV Spain - 10.9.2000
MTV NL (Holland) - 12.9.2000
MTV Romania - 1.6.2002
MTV Portugal - 1.7.2003

MTV Adria (for Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia) - 1.8.2005

plus there are the following channels: VH1 UK, VH1 European, VH1 Classic (since last december VH1 Classic Uk and VH1 Classic European), VH2, MTV2 Europe, MTV Hits UK, MTV Hits Italy, MTV2Pop, MTV Classic, MTV Base, MTV Dance, MTV Brand:New, TMF Holland, TMF Vlaanderen, TMF UK.

Unfortunately it only ran for 3 months, in summer 1998. Playlist included Drax Three, Astral Projection, Juno Reactor, Transwave...
A lot of hard-trance, goa-trance, psychedelic videos...

VH1 Breakfast Club was quite good for dance this morning. I saw Scissor Sisters, Eric Prydz, Stardust, Moloko, Elvis vs JXL, Spiller and lots of other upbeat tunes.

Alot of countrys use VH1 Europe but I must admit the channel has gone downhill when they got the new graphics change.

MTV Germany uses the same graphics as MTV Europe but the MTV logo on MTV Europe is slightly different

I take serious offence to that quote. It requires a lot of musical talent to put together a floorfiller, that will last in people's heads for years to come. As for DJ's, like myself, it's ****ing hard! You try it!

As for a dance music channel. Try checking the EPG around May's end. I have a feeling you will be surprised.
