Eurosport have done it yet again!

Like most people I have to work, so I duly set my Sky+ to record the cycling this afternoon, The Tour De Langkawi on Eurosport 2. This afternoon's stage is the crucial stage of the race up the Genting Highlands. So what happened?

I've just sat down to watch it, and the bloody tennis has overun the best part of an hour! This wasn't supposed to happen now that we have Eurosport 2! Or am I being naiive? The tennis is an INDOOR tournament too. Don't they have any idea of the schedule in Milan BEFORE they schedule their programming?

Once again, it is us cycling fans who suffer at the hands of Eurosport...

It doesn't make any difference whether tennis is played indoors or outdoors, the length of a match is never going to be known until it is over.

And how would Eurosport 2 have helped you in this case? The tennis would have still over-run and if they had switched the cycling to Eurosport 2, Your Sky+ would still have recorded the tennis.

I mention the fact that it was indoors because there was no chance of a weather delay. And the match wasn't overunning at all, they just decided to show it with no warning. Not for the 1st time either...

Eurosport are notoriously bad when it comes to scheduling due to the nature of live sport and because they do not update the EPG when things overrun as, for example the BBC do. Nor do they have reliable series links. The only solution is to set a manual recording or record the following/previous programme/s too, which should ensure that you don't miss what you want to see.

As a tennis fan and Sky+ user, I can tell you that I have suffered at the hands of Eurosport until I stopped relying on their schedules. I suggest you do the same.

300m viewers across Europe apparently?

I'd take that!

Actual viewers if you believe that nobody watches more than one programme a week.

Prompts me to recall last years Wimbledon when Tim Henmans match was switched to BBC1 and the six o clock news went out on BBC2 although the epg wasn't changed and showed the original scheduling!

as i thought. potential not actual.

to quote : http://www.eurosport.co.uk/home/page...spo10000.shtml

"EUROSPORT is the most widely available channel in Europe, reaching over 95 million homes and 250 million viewers in 54 countries! Incredibly, over 96% of Eurosport's viewers can watch their favourite sports in their native language"

that just means they could watch it, just as i have the dating channel etc but never turn over to it

in fact, have barb figures for 2 weeks or so ago.

http://www.barb.co.uk/viewingsummary...t=multichannel

hardly hugely watched.

Of course the BARB figures only reflect the UK - you need to take a similar percentage of viewing in multi-channel homes in each of the other 54 countries where Eurosport is available to get the true figure.

no you dont. because eurosport themselves say they are only in 250m houses not 300m.
and the sad fact is, eurosport in the uk gets about the same number of viewers as bravo. which is tiny.
now in europe it may be higher as some of their sports we get on british eurosport are more popular there, but only if eurosport actually have the rights and not a local channel. eg italian football.

Im afraid youve fallen for the worst aspect about Sky+.

Dont rely on broadcasters changing the Sky EPG data if you have got live sport lined up to record. Some broadcasters do a good job of changing the EPG, and some dont.

Bottom line. If you want to ensure you record your live sport, perform a manual recording job, with a half hour (to one hour if possible) buffer of time on each side.
