The stories that never happened!
Inside Soap ran a feature this issue, telling of some plots that were going to happen but had to be scrapped last minute!
Deirdre and Ken reunited! Corrie in 1993 scripts saw Ken and Deirdre reunite just 3 years after a divorce, both actors filming kissing scenes already. But Anne Kirkbride was taken badly ill so Ken ended up with Denise Osbourne and on return, Deirdre found love with Samir Rachid! Charity's happy day! Emmerdale The original plan was to have Tom King drop dead but the family proved a hit so his death is now on an indefinate postpone. Charity was going to marry him happily leading to a kerfuffle with the family but then Emma Atkins announced her exit, so bosses needed a way to wreck the wedding...enter Sadie King! Violently Unhappy Corrie Sally and Greg Kelly's storyline had a scene filmed where Greg walloped Sally across the face but bosses saw it was too violent and had to tame it down Dennis and Peggy's fling! EE Peggy was set to leave due to Barbara Windsor's illness and was intended to have a rampant affair with Dennis Rickman as her exit storyline! Luckily, she was written out quicker in a blink and youll miss it journey to Brazil Family Affair Neighbours Neighbours is regularly tamed down for the UK lunchtime slot and a prime example was an incest storyline between Lucy Robinson and Glen Donnelly...BBC bosses cut any reference to this storyline. A story which saw Billy Kennedy and Anne Wilkinson lose their virginity was also cut Zoe's wedding EE Zoe and Anthony Trueman's wedding was going to be the EE event of the year, until Zoe was taken ill from stress and nervous exhaustion. The story was cut, with Zoe instead going to Spain after dumping the doc. RIP Tracy! Corrie Tracy Barlow was originally set to die after giving birth to Amy paving away for a Cropper/mcdonald/barlow fight for the child. But Kate Ford proved such a hit as Tracy that the character was saved Rosie kidnapped! Corrie In 1994, Corrie had a crisis after planning a major storyline where 3 year old Rosie was kidnapped in Blackpool sparking a huge search by parents Sally and Kevin. But the story was too like a news story that emerged directly before filming was due to begin and was scrapped for less sensational goings on back in Weatherfield |

I did hear a rumour about the Dennis/Peggy story a while back. Cant believe they were seriously considering it though. Then again, Louise Berridge was in charge at the time.

Dennis and Peggy - for sheer comedy value I'd have loved to have seen that one, probably not the effect they were going for, but it would have been hilarious.

I'd heard something about Dennis and Peggy a while back, but I thought it was too ridiculous even for Louise Berridge. Silly me!
I'm surprised they intended to kill off Tracy, the character has a lot of mileage in her - and I can't believe Kate Ford's performance saved her! |

Another one is Chloe getting together with Rodney - this was strange because Amy Nuttall more or less confirmed it in an interview herself, but they obviously scrapped it last minute?

These are all stories I heard were in the pipeline. (I even gave them witty headlines
)New Moon, Total Eclipse - Eastenders Danny Moon was supposed to be killed of shortly after ariving in the square but the producers warmed to Jake Maskall and thought that death was a tad sudden. Fruit Falls Far From The Tree - Eastenders Adi Ferreira was suppose to come out as gay and be abused by his father and the story was in the writing process until Dalip Tahil was forced out of work and scripts had to be rewritten to bring about the Kidney story. Cunningham Strikes Twice - Hollyoaks Max Cunningham was supposed to run over and kill Debbie Dean on Christmas Eve and then do the same to Sally Hunter on New Years Eve but Hollyoaks producers wanted to leave the door open for a return for Debbie and couldn't give up Sally as they were already losing Dan Hunter so they killed Dan instead in a motor racing incident. |

They could still have done that storyline with Adi being gay and abused. The kidney storyline was the worst replacement ever.
Another plot that was scrapped, early in EE's run, was Peter Beale's death. His character was supposed to be killed of Christmas 1985, but ended up living another 9 years after Producer Julia Smith worried about the show losing one of it's 'lynch-pin characters'. The writers brought in Den's mistress to the Vic as a replacement story Peggy and Dennis sounds awful. Are you sure this storyline wasn't Den and Peggy (there were also a few rumours going around the Den was supposed to be Sam Mitchell's father, and that Pat was supposed to be Dennis's mother!) |

Yeah i'm not surprised they did not kill off Pete, the show had already gone through some teething problems (Losing Mark in the first year due to the original actors' personal problems). You are right about Adi too, the should have still done the storyline where he revealed he was gay (Just as long as he didn't hook up with Derek LOL - not saying this would have happened, but soaps usually just lump their gay characters together without any thought!). |

If you look back at early Ferreira scenes it's very obvious too because the others are always pestering him about the fact he's never had a girlfriend before and Kareena was always talking with him like they were hiding a secret from everyone.

This is actually really awful, but which Ferrari brother was Adi?!
The one with the goatee or the miserable one with glasses (actually they're both pretty miserable!) |

I always wanted to know what they had planned for Linda Baldwin's return had the actress come back after maternity leave. They created a whole murder mystery in the months leading up to her exit explaination. I think they should of stuck with that and actually killed her off too or had Mark come back and explain it all instead of the stupid throw away sentence she had got to Dublin with nothing and didn't want Mike's money. Would Mke have been charged with her murder? Would she have turned up to save his bacon at the last minute? Was she pregnant after their last night of passion at Fred and Eve's wedding. Was she with Mark etc etc?
As much as I don't like Kate Ford and no others who can't stand her, I am glad they didn't kill off Tracy Barlow. The character has potential throughout the future of the programme and there is no reason why she can't change heads again some years down the line when Kate Ford is gone and forgotten from TV screens. I loved Tracy as the difficult stroppy teenager in the 90s played by Dawn Acton. Dawn wouldn't of been able to play the current Tracy well but then neither can Kate. I am sure a middle-aged Tracy played by a proper actress has a future too. And what will Tracy be like at 70? |
