BBC News - how would you have it?

Just as the title of this post says...how would YOU have BBC News?

Would you keep the current graphics, the whole look and the studio, or would you change it & give BBC National News and News 24 a revamp?

Would you axe any current newreaders? Introduce any new newsreaders from other networks?

Would you change the times of the current national bulletins?

Would you introduce a new evening news programme to replace the ten o'clock News?

Anything knew to the interactive service? Keep News at 10 Extra? Or anything else?

Well, this would be my ideal BBC News...

Breakfast - would be on weekdays from 6 - 10am
there would be a new look, Natasha Kaplinsky leaves and Dermot Murnaghan joins News 24.

Darren Jordon and Sophie Raworth would present.

One o'clock news - would be on weekdays from 1pm - 1.30pm, probably keep the current look. However, there would be two presenters on the bulletin, instead of one.
They would take turns each week, for example -

Week 1 - Phil Hayton and Anna Ford
Week 2 - Chris Eakin and Fiona Bruce
Week 3 - Phil Hayton and Anna Ford, and so on..

Six o'clock news - There would still be two presenters who would be on the six bulletin every week. I would make some changes to the studio for this bulletin, to make it appear more wider. For the six, I'd have
George Alagiah still on but Moira Stuart would replace Sophie.

Ten o'clock news - given a total overhaul. It would be extended from 10pm - 11pm and renamed BBC News Tonight. It would be part of a new 'newsnight' slot on BBC1. There would be BBC News Tonight starting at 10pm, Newsnight would move to BBC1 and be shown at 11pm - midnight (including regional newsnight) There would be two presenters, again like the six news, they would both present it together every night. The presenters would be Huw Edwards and Jane Hill. I think they'd bring authority to the bulletin & could see them being a good on-screen partnership, they both have good interaction with the viewer. Studio would be different for this bulletin and it would have different graphics. There would be an on-screen ticker plus a few plasma screens behind the newsreaders, and the studio would be big enough for the newsreaders to move around & present news stories from plasma screens.

Weather graphics would be refreshed and bulletins would appear -

1.27pm
6.27pm
10.27pm on BBC1!

NEWS 24 PRESENTERS

6.00am - 9.30am BREAKFAST
with Darren Jordon and Sophie Raworth (would only last until 9.30am on News 24 to make way for World News)

9.30am BBC WORLD NEWS
with a World News newsreader, although I would make some adjustments to the current world studio - bit dry, don't you think?

10.00am BBC NEWS 24 TODAY
a programme like Sky News Today, can anyone think of a different name for it though 'today' was all I could think of. Anyway this would broadcast from 10am - 12pm, from the news 24 studio. It would include MORE in depth analysis of the day's news, business and sport. There would also be a new TV critic, looking ahead at the night's top picks. Weather bulletins would give weather effecting the world, it would last 5 mins & be on at 10.25 - 10.30am, 11.25am - 11.30am.

Sian Williams and Bill Turnbull would present.

12.00PM - 3.00PM BBC NEWS
with Maxine Mawhinney and Matthew Amroliwala

3.00PM - 6.00PM BBC NEWS
with Louise Minchin and Jon Sopel

6.00PM - 9.00PM BBC NEWS
with Anna Jones and Tim Wilcox

9.00PM BBC NEWS AT 9
would be a new nine o'clock news bulletin, just for BBC News 24. It would be on for half an hour & would be presented by Dermot Murnaghan & Peter Dobbie.

9.30PM SPORTSDAY

10.00PM BBC NEWS TONIGHT
programme not only broadcasts on BBC1 but also on News 24. Would come from national news studio - Huw Edwards and Jane Hill present.

11.00PM Newsnight

12am news, news news ...

Natasha Kaplinsky - goes to ITV
Sir Trevor McDonald - moves to BBC?

News24 was told to be "distinct" and different from its competitors. If you ask me, Sky News is hoing to become more like the BBC with its "appointment to view" schedule.

I would have it so they either fix the widescreen bug or broadcast in 4:3!

This ID used for BBC Arabic is amazing; use that. I would also include local news in 24: break the UK up into Highlands, Lowlands, North, Midlands, South, East, Wales, NI (Local News on BBC One stays the same).

you'd have 2 separate Scottish regions, but just 1 for the south and London?

and why bump such an old thread
