Wouldn't that have just come along with VOD, because they'd have had to have the return path open?

Waste of money. If people want to do it, they will.

And here is the image again (I thought I'd put it on my webspace because the current location keeps running out of bandwidth)

Not true. Sky Digital has been going longer than ntl digital, and it has yet to be hacked. Their decision to invest more in encryption, using the VideoGuard system, has proved to be a good one. ntl use the NagraVision system, which has obviously been hacked.

If ntl have invested properly in these new cards, there's no reason why they shouldn't be secure for a long time to come.

however, sky have issued new cards in the past as hacks were either working or very close to working, and sky has been hacked recently using the sat dboxes - but it's expensive to do

this will be the first time ntl will have issued new cards to my knowledge

So now can we expect out boxes to blank out every day right in the middle of our fav program like Sky cards used to ?
Sky used to trigger it just before Next Generation (first screening) came on, and it would take a while to roll out to everyone.

I don't really trust an article that talks about NTL "cable giant" and then goes on about costing satellite firms millions. The writer obviously hasn't done much in the way of research.

It is sort of right...

The view in the story being why would someone pay for a satellite sub when they could get a chipped NTL box?

It is big in the cable world in this country
