The Coronation Street future storyline mystery

I've just been reading a newspaper cutting from 1999 (which I kept for a reason not connected with Corrie) and it states that "A married man who Gail had an affair with in the mid-70's dies and leaves Gail his fortune. The initial excitement soon dies down when relatives of the deceased man contest the will."
I don't remember that happening in what would have to have been the fairly recent past.

It was probably one of those spoof storylines that they print that might not be true.

The only married man Gail ever saw - and she didn't know he was married - was Roy Thornley, for about a month, when she was 19. She lost her virginity to him!

She didn't believe he was married when Elsie discovered he was, but when Elsie proved it to her and he admitted it, finished it. He worked as a salesman for the boutique Gail and Elsie worked in. Roy's wife named Gail in the divorce. Always amused me how she worried what 'Me Mam and Dad will say' like she actually HAD a Dad and her Mum was NOT the good time girl she turned out to be in Audrey!

Anyway, in the end Roy - who used Gail for a fling and was never fond enough of her to leave her anything! - set up home with the woman who owned the shop and Gail was never mentioned in the divorce, and that was the only time she ever had anything to do with a married man!

After that she met Brian, after Brian - well ... at the same time, came Ian, his cousin who she had an affair with and thought was Sarah's father! ... then came Martin and after Martin came Richard in 2001.

So .... obviously nothing like that ever happened!
Maybe Richard was the subsitute storyline when someone decided marrying Gail off to a serial killer would be much more fun than something long forgotten from her past!

Yes Flukie Gail had her history changed from living at home with nice parents to being single parent- neglected child and then having a brother in Canada.
Ivy also had a change of history from being married to Wilf who became Jack and was seen in 2 episodes in 1975 and they were sad as they had no kids and then she was married to Bert with grown son Brian!
