Eugene - Multitasking Genius?
Whilst counting obediently for Derek he managed to hold a conversation with Orlaith and during the gaps in the conversation, every 10 or 15 seconds, update his counting for a few seconds before talking again. At the end of the conversation he just started "46, 47", and he was more or less spot-on. Bit of a 'rain man' moment I reckon. I certainly couldn't do that - could anyone else?
Apart from that it was very funny to think of Derek cursing under the water that Eugene was interrupting his counting to speak to the 'oreful Orla', but determined to not let Orlaith see that she'd spoiled his breath holding attempt by aborting it. If I was him I might have (wrongly) thought Eugene was taking the pIss by making out he could continue counting through all that. |

I think most women can multitask, in the sense of being able to engage in one conversation and yet be able to listen to another. It's not a gift that many men possess though. The Input/Output channel is usually unidirectional in our case...

Wait, wait, wait...................men and women both can multitask; all men drive and then put on some music, fiddle with other controls; all while assessing every women that is within their visual range.
It is scientifically shown that women probably can multitask a little more than men, but the differential is only noticeable when you are talking about five or six simultaneous tasks as a pose to men's 3 or 4...............or something like that. and anyway Eugene was not spot on! |

But does he do cooperative or preemptive multitasking huh? One is more efficient than the other

Eugene certainly seems reasonably intelligent and reasonably educated, but by no means any kind of genius, just as John Tickle's intellect was probably blown out of all proportion, because relative to the other housemates they seem cleverer, at least superficially.

I'd say that was pretty good wouldn't you? Would anyone like to try counting 45 seconds whilst distracting themselves for most of the counting period. Means of distraction - you choose!

I don't think it difficult, especially if like Eugene you wish to show yourself as intelligent and thus are probably trying hard. After all he has no physical attributes to offer up to at the alter of natural selection, so he has to hone what little skill he can muster, in the form of intellectual saleability and niceness. |

No one tried doing this I suppose? . Personally I failed miserably - it still baffles me that anyone is able to count while holding a conversation at the same time, but there you go.
