Is it not illegal to stream a part-time radio station on the web?

Who cares!! You could probably broadcast it on FM illegally with no problems for 28 days, so I don't think anyone would give a grannys knickers about it broadcasting on the net - it's not like many people would listen on the net anyway!

Of corse it is not illegal it is an RSL and it has been arranged with the backing of ofcom, Preston City council, Avencentral. The European regional develpment fund, Preston Community Arts Project. It also has the support of Preston North Ends Football club

Actually, this is inaccurate. If you hold a licence with PPL/PRS/MCPS to broadcast on FM, you need a second licence to stream on the internet if you want to be truely legal. I imagine many don't. I also know that it's uneconomically expensive to get the second licence just to serve an extra 50 or so people, and there are extra restrictions on what you can play. Some might consider this a ploy (maybe inadvertant) to kill off the internet as a viable radio medium in the UK. (I'm sure this has been discussed in more depth elsewhere?)

Another one of those people who don't have a clue what they're talking about...

IF you broadcast internet radio - you NEED a license from the MCPS-PRS alliance and PPL for it to be LEGAL. If you don't - you're broadcasting an illegal internet radio station. (these terms are only suitable for the uk, of course)

IF you want to broadcast ANYTHING on the FM band, you MUST have the above mentioned licenses AND an Ofcom license for some sort of radio station - be it Commercial or Community.

You're wrong in thinking that you can broadcast anything as long as you stick to one frequency - if you do, you may end up with quite a hefty fine in the long run.

As the link is from the stations own website then they are fine, assuming they are paying the appropriate royalties.

Shame they couldn't get a decent feed to the encoder though, sounds like the aerial is substandard to recive reliable FM stereo

The "stay pressed on" links between and DURING the songs are slightly annoying, but i may well give the local rsl for my home town another crack tomorrow.
