Yep, watching it now. I predict it's going to end badly. Digiguide says "Set on an average Friday night, in what could be any British town or city". No idea where it was actually filmed though.

Yes, I flicked it on about 20 mins ago, when did it start?

It is pretty bloody scary though.

Is it really like this on a Friday night in any British town or city?

Have I missed a bit where the police chief and the lad know each other? Is that his son?

yeah it does get pretty larey (sp?), a few weeks back in my home town there were a few stag/hen nights from out of town and at the end of night a big fight started outside a pub just because people started arguing.

im really liking this programme as it does give a real perspective on what a night out can end like.

I was really expecting a death as the moral of the story! - so glad they didn't do that. I also liked the way they had an upbeat story (the club owner and the hairstylist), it reflected what the councillor said about most people just having fun from alcohol and not causing trouble off it.

It was defiantly reflective of Ipswich town centre during the weekend.

The thing is though - when you’re that pissed, you become blissfully unaware of what a tw*t you’ve become!

I admit that I’m a binge drinker; I drink in moderation most nights – but when it comes to a Friday or Saturday night, I know I’ll be in town pissed out off my head.
It is a bad habit, but after a long week its how I like to relax & have a good time and like the lad in the drama, I started going into town when I was 16 and started drinking a few years before that.

I’m not really sure what kind off difference the new licensing laws will make, I think it might worsen the situation and as a fully paid up member of society I should be opposed to the new laws, but for me they are beneficial and so my objections are at a minimum.

Apparently was mainly Bolton.

I'm sure I recognised Deansgate in Manchester on there too. (AKA Hell on Earth)

it was filmed in my home town of wigan although, judging by the events, i dont think i want to admit, albeit they were actors, there were still some 'real' people in the programme lol.. was interesting none the less.. i recognised all the places except CrazyFaceJacks as they made this up and just refurbished a club and filmed that in there.
It was filmed on King Street, in the middle of Wigan town centre

Loved the way they adapted the Carlsberg logo to make 'Legless'! Pure genius (oh no, that's something else!! ). I thought it was really well done - in fact, remember those virtual fireplaces and fishbowls you can buy on DVD to trick you into thinking you have them in your living room? Well, you could just put this on every Friday or Saturday night and have a 'virtual' pubcrawl! It was made by Red which I think was behind 'Queer As Folk'. The only thing wrong with it was that it could have been a LOT more hardhitting than it was, really grim (I was convinced that the bar manager was going to get murdered in a surprise botched robbery, for example! ) but not bad at all and nice to see ex-Brooksider Nicola Stephenson back on the box.

This was like most things on TV, much truth was lost for dramatic effeect. As a licensing lawyer working for a local authority, I can tell you that council business cannot be carried out in the way shown, too many regulations which set down how things happen.

The new laws have been strssed by the media in the wrong way. There will be very few, if any, 24 hour establishments, purely on economic grounds - compare the staff costs in keeping a premises open when very few people will be spending very much more and they will close when the number of customers gets below a ratio of 2:1 of customers to staff. Once premises get the licences under the new laws which will come into effect on 24th November next, there are all sorts of new offences and controls, including reviews, which will be very effective in ensuring that problems will be swiftly dealt with. The guy who runs the premises does not get a licence to print money, he ets lots of responsibiliyt which can be taken away, along with his livlihood which is not the case at the moment. Problems at the moment stem from the fact that a licence can only be taken away so no court will do this lightly. Councils will be able to reduce opening hours, take away the rights to provide any activity, suspend the licence or take it away comletely. The Police will also get the right to close a disorderly or noisy premises immediately. If they make this programme in 18 months time, you can expect a much more subdued town, caused by some frightened licensees.
