This year, have they gone for Celebrity status over personality?

Hi, this is my first ever post on the Celebrity threads, but I've been a frequent poster on the BB threads for many years.

It may just be me and my age (I'm 16, and watch quite a lot of soaps), but do this years housemates seem quite famous?

Sheree - I knew her! The bird from Emmerdale who died
Sid - In EastEnders
Elaine - In Eastenders
David - Did Bargain Hunt
Jilly - Did Food and Drink (the folks used to watch it)
Jimmy - I was aware that he existed, and know of Donny
Carol - Knew her by face, don't know much about her
Jenny - Atomic Kitten
Antony - Blue bloke

Kimberly was the only one I've never heard of.

Another intersting point is that none of them are still in the same line of work that made them famous (eg, Sid isn't in EastEnders, David doesn't do Bargain Hunt)

But some older viewers won't know who Sheree, Sid or Elaine are, but I do, so to some, the line up seems better than others. What do you think?

To me, they seem to be quite high-profile, but they don't see to have personality. There doesn't seem to be a Janet Street Porter, or a Jordan. I can't see David giving Carol a sensual massage, or Antony and Sid arguing furiously over food rations. However, I could, and hopefully will be proved wrong!

I think that there's some element of stardom over personality. A lot of people are saying these celebs aren't very famous, though.

I don't think they're very famous in a "Tabloid-y" way (except perhaps Elaine, Jenny and Antony) but they are quite famous for being famous, if that makes any sense.

I see quite a lot of personality in there. It may not be arguments all the way, but that's not needed as such. They may get on, but I think there'll be a lot of humour this year for some unknown reason.

(The "odd" numbered IACs are always the best. 1 and 3 were very good. 2 and 4 ranged from OK at best to rubbishy and dull).

I agree to a certain extent however, my point would be are any of them actually 'working' at the moment?

Not sure about Carol and Jimmy but the others aren't up to much - and Jenny Frost's first solo single has just flopped - ha!

Well, if they're not working, it would definitely fit with the "I'm a Z-list Celeb trying to get some fame and a job" motto.

I to think there are some good personalitys in there!

I saw a program called 'extreme celeb detox' recently and if Jilly's behavior on there is anything to go by she'll be up for a trial in no time. Here you go Jilly, enjoy the oaky aroma of cockroach!

Technically, David Dickinson still does Bargain Hunt albeit the primetime show (currently off air) and recently did Dealing with Dickinson where he turned amateurs into antique dealers.

As far as I know, he's the only one with a regular employed gig (but he's currently off-air as he's in the jungle).

I haven't seen Jilly since 'Food & Drink' days but she always seemed to have plenty of oomph about her.........I reckon she'll be well up for it.

They usually stick one or two 'game old birds' in every series........Christine Hamilton, Janet SP, Jenny Bond, Sheila Ferguson............they usually turn out to be 'copers' who get on with things without too much fuss

Let's hear it for the game old birds !!...............

What is Kimberly like? Will she be just a pretty face, or does she has a dazzling personality to match her looks?

From what I've heard she's a girl-next-door type.

The game old birds always tend to do well because of their grittiness and (sometimes) more interesting personalities. I'll betcha that one of Carol or Jilly ends up in the final 4.

Surely no one considers Carol Thatcher to even be a zelebrity though? I hope she has a personality.

I don't think they are any more famous than preveious years. I think it probably depends on what you are into as to whether you consider them to be more famous. Given I am into music and soaps are recognised most of them - but if you are not into these things then you probably won't have a clue who they are.

Carol T. is OK. She's a respected journalist, I think. I like her when she does paper reviews on BBC - good sense of humour, intelligent & quite feisty. I've always had the feeling that she was more daddy's girl & mother favoured the prodigal son, Mark (Carol's twin).

This year, have they gone for Celebrity status over personality?

Swap the words "have" and "they" around and Anthony Costa justifies that statement...
