Farewell, Nana Moon - Soaps

Alfie has had a fair share of ups and downs, but whatever life's thrown at him, one woman has always remained loyally by his side - his Nana. Sadly, though, that's not going to be the case for much longer. Grab yourself a hanky, because in a tearjerker of an episode, loveable old Nana Moon breathes her last this week and quietly slips away to Walford heaven. Having been diagnosed with an aneurism - a dangerous swelling of a blood vessel - Nana's known for some months that the end is nigh, and has been 'living it large', fulfilling her ambitions. Plucky soul that she is, Nana spends her last days putting an outside bet on a horse and going shopping with Kat for a new hat to wear to the races. She then hands Kat an envelope containing details of her final wish. Nana's request? Well, that's a secret for now, because she tells Kat not to open it until after her death.

With everything in order, Nana's looking forward to having her family around her for her last Christmas. Unfortunately, Spencer's in Australia and Danny is goodness knows where, but Alfie persuades Jake not to leave Walford and Nana has a ball as the three of them spend an early Christmas together. She's chuffed to bits when they manage to get hold of a dancing toy penguin that she's set her heart on, and when Alfie turns away from her for a moment to admire it, his beloved Nana passes away next to him on the sofa.

Can anyone help fill the void left by Nana's departure and put a smile back on grieving Alfie's face? Well, there is one woman we can think of. Let's just hope EastEnders gets in the festive spirit this Christmas, and gives us the happy ending we've all been waiting for...

The Truth About Juley and Ruby

That Juley's turned into a nice lad, hasn't he, what with putting his dodgy past firmly behind him and taking up with young Ruby? And since Ruby's dad, Johnny, has made it frighteningly clear that he doesn't approve of his daughter's choice in boyfriends, they've turned into the Romeo and Juliet of Albert Square. Ahh, how sweet...

Honestly, we'll fall for any old cobblers, won't we! As Ruby loses her virginity to Juley this week, it's revealed that he's been motivated by money rather than love. Phil is paying him to date Ruby in order to get back at Johnny, who threatened Peggy, after she told Ruby about his gangster past.

The plan certainly seems to be working, judging by Johnny's reaction when he discovers that his daughter's had sex. But after Ruby tells him she loves him, Juley is racked with guilt and wants to end the deal. Phil persuades him to continue, and together they engineer a situation where Johnny 'discovers' Juley and Ruby in his bedroom. A furious Johnny lies in wait for Juley but luckily for him he's saved by Dennis.

So Phil's got what he wants - the normally cool and collected Johnny's well and truly lost it - but what will be the cost to poor Ruby?
