Multi Coloured Fairy Lights

Ive just been having a discussion and realised that you don't see multi coloured fairy lights anymore.
They seem to be all white, or all red, you also never see those awful flashing ones that I used to nag my mum for when I was a kid.

Ive got some of those awful flashing ones

I had them passed down to me, they were from the early 80's and they still work today

I still use them because im a sentimental crazy woman, but i agree they are tacky.

I don't like multi-coloured lights, I stick to just plain white ones, it's just a personal preference.

I'm the same I think the plain white ones look far more classy and the multi-coloured ones make me think of flashing red lights outside a brothel.

There is a house by me that has all read ones in its window and it looks lovely.

Those flashing ones always looked so cool when I was younger. My neighbours had them in their window.
My mum said they would drive her mad. I mean can you imagine sitting watching the TV with those flashing things on your Xmas Tree!

Yeah, I forked out £7 for some white ones that had 8 flashing settings on. I went through them all one by one before deciding I just like the basic 'always on' setting....

The flashing ones give me a headache.
A few years ago I bought one of those indoor/outdoor light nets, I drape that round my tree, all the lights are evenly spaced and no more fiddling with twisted wire, saves a lot of time and stress!

I really like the multi-coloured ones
I think it's a nostalgia think, it puts me in mind of christmas as a child in the 70s

I think that's the very reason I don't like them, same with those dangly, metalic, chinese lantern style decorations, too many memories of an alchololic father drinking himself into a temper

You'd have to blindfold me to get me up your hall, then take it off once I was safely in your classy lounge

Not only is it difficult to get coloured lights but it's impossible to get coloured lights with shades now. I like lights with shades and I can't find any..

Those dangly things are a serious fire hazzrd.

Thats probably why you don't see them anymore, that and the fact they are sooooo naff!

I do love Tinsel though. You can't beat a nice bit of tinsel!

I never have had any fairy lights before, but if I were to get some, personally I'd prefer plain white lights which look nice and simple.

I think multi-coloured lights may be just a bit flamboyant.

I think white lights look great on a really colourful tree, and coloured lights great on a white or black tree.

I hope white lights don't take over though, too many can be really dull.

Totally agree.
We still have two sets of the multi coloured ones working - the third set packed up last year.
But we did buy another set for the tree, which have many more lights on them and are also low voltage so are safe.

Our christmasses are still like the ones I remember as a result, and I hope my children will remember them that way as well.

You can still buy them I think.
