A privately funded organisation, the New 7 Wonders Foundation, has put forward a shortlist of 21 landmarks from across the globe. They are:
Acropolis, Athens
Alhambra, Granada, Spain
Angkor, Cambodia
Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico
Christ Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Colosseum, Rome, Italy
Easter Island statues, Chile
Eiffel Tower, Paris

Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey
Kyomizu Temple, Kyoto, Japan
Kremlin, Moscow, Russia
Machu Picchu, Peru

Not much on that list come even close to the originals.

Where's the Grand Canyon, did they 'overlook' it, LOL.

Vote by phone, paying international charges - some (about 50%) of the money goes to their 'foundation'....

Aside from my (admitedly cynical) view that this is a royal rip-off, it also disenfranchises people from all over the world who should be able to vote, yet couldn't afford a phone call (assuming they even had access to them).

I would much prefer that such a vote was done by schools all over the world (would take some organisation, but it could be done for quite a lot of countries) - at least the coverage would be a bit more inclusive..

I agree. I was going to vote and then I saw I couldn't do it without ringing.
