Poseidon Adventure

Did anbody watch this fantastic film tonight on Ch4.
I think it was shown as a tribute to Shelley Winters who sadly died last week.
I'd forgotton what an emotional film it was.
The scenes where Shelley Winters character died after rescuing Gene Hackman's character, (I'm sorry, but I can't remember the characters names), was very moving when he said after she died, Oh god, why this woman' and when he sacrificed his life at the end to save the others, I was in tears.
Great film!

I remember watching this loads when I ws a kid, it was on telly about three times a year during the 80's Im sure.

I loved it and now have nostalgic affection for all those old disaster moives, like posiedon adventure, towering inferno etc.

They did throw a lot of money at all those films.

I sneaked into the cinema to see TI when I was 11. It put me off working/living in high rise buildings for life.
(I'm not keen on travelling in urine soaked lifts either)

I know what you mean, great film, but I think I got my fear of heights from watching that film.

I have absolutely no fear of heights, my (money providing) job entails climbing ladders.
Its superfluous beancounter ideas of cost cutting that gets brought on board and then is utilised in planning/ construction.
Nature wouldnt design a termite hill that catches fire, modify a beaver dam to break up during an earth tremor or create a river flood plain with spare capacity for des-res apartments.
The only thing its good for is disaster movies.

Just in case anybody wanted to know The Poseidon Adventure has been remade as Poseidon and is due for release on the 2nd of June. The remake stars Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell and Richard Dreyfuss and you should be able to find the trailer for it on most film sites!
