Franz Ferdinand Ignoramus - Music

I'm sitting 29 stories up, overlooking Auckland harbour. It's a great view and there's one of those needle communication tower things off to the left a bit. I love those. They're such an ostentatious flash of '60s technology. It's as if the city yelled 'this is the future!' forty five years ago and it was frozen in concrete and glass. Glasgow could really do with one. We've never had one of those before. That would put Edinburgh and their silly castle to shame.

Above is a post from the Franz Ferdinand site from one of the band members on their tour (I was actually Googling for restaurants in Edinburgh believe it or not and I got their site). Way to go to slag off one off your home country you **** (okay I know they are not all from Scotland). As for the "silly castle", well obviously Edinburgh Castle cannot possibly compare with a flash "needle communication tower thing" built in the 60s, I mean the Castle's only been around since Norman times with fortifications being built during every significant period since then. Sorry, I know I shouldn't get pee'd off at things like that.

Their first album was great, the second was very "meh".

All FF band members are from Glasgow, sounds like their comments are a big tongue in cheek as there is/always has been a healthly rivalry between Glasgow and Edinburgh

I don't think it's drivel at all. Why can't musicians be literary? If someone like Updike had written it there would be no fuss at all.

As for the Edinburgh thing, yeah, I see that as tongue in cheek. I like Edinburgh, but being Glaswegian I like to take advantage of slagging it at every available opportunity

Annanothering - yeah I think it's cobblers as well, even tho I do get the joke now (assuming it was meant to be funny). I'm glad I didn't bother to read any more of their site - it looked pretty tedious.

Yeah, especially as he's almost certainly talking about the Sky Tower that was built in 1996/7.

The lead singer (I'm assuming it was him) is probably a clever guy but some of the things he comes out with just make him sound a right tw*t.

loosefur - I really wanted to like it but I felt like I was listening to songs that weren't good enough to make the first album or something. Am not one of those peeps who needs a "new band of the year".

Me too... I loved Do You Want To. Maybe that's why the rest of the album was sooooo disappointing. Fortunately there's lots of other great new bands around to fill the void - The Crimea, Eighteenth Day of May, Field Music and The Pantones are all worth checking out.

loosefur - well I haven't heard of any of that lot - so thanks! I always try to be open to new stuff... and old stuff. In fact I could possibly sum that up with the last gig I went to - Human League (recently discovered their earlier stuff) supported by a fab new Scottish act Hobokin. Am not pretending to be hip or anything, I just love music.

Glasgow has a 'needle like' tower. It's part of the Science Centre, looks like a hypodermic syringe and has had all sorts of structural problems since it opened. I still dont think its open to the public.

Personally I'd rather have a 'silly castle'

They do come across as prats.
