what is all the fuss about
the media is constantly highlighting the story of the cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed in a derogatory way, which has prompted muslims the world over to get up in arms and threaten any european newspaper which dares to publish the cartoons.
These images would warrant this uprising only if the danish newspaper was making allegations about this prophet. Freedom of speech is still allowed in european countries. Obviously, there are followers of every religion worldwide so if muslims cannot accept that not everyone is in concord with their beliefs, they are being extremely egotistical. But the main reason I started this thread: we all are aware of the situation but, unless you have managed to catch images of said cartoons on the internet - which I have, you won't know what all the fuss is about. How can we make up our mind if we don't know what caused the uproar in the first place? The muslims have got european countries so terrified to overstep the PC line, that the media in each country would rather the printing press broke down than print these images. It has got to a stage where political correctness dictates what can and cannot be expressed in the public forum, and this is making a nonsense of democracy! |

A primary example of how scared and weak our country is - no paper will dare to show any of the cartoons in fear of uprising from the Muslim community here, which is pathetic. I respect all the other newspapers for publishing them and showing a community that they do not control our media, and freedom of speech is a fundamental part of Western life.

The papers may be scared and weak, But the poeple certainly are not.
The vast majority of people have no problems exprssing exactly what they feel about the pictures and thier right to see/publish them. |

I think it'd be a good idea to publish them, then we can weed out a lot of the extremists and trouble makers and kick them out or lock them up, preferably with the key thrown away.
Mind you, I forgot how gutless our police are. |

Proof that some Muslims seem to think that they are the superior race.
If we dare argue, they'll blow us up. |

One thing I find most puzzling of this whole situation - why do they feel the need to burn down the Danish embassy in the country and let mob rule take over in the name of their religion?
Surely it amounts to nothing less than criminal damage with intent, and however justified they may feel it is in their eyes, it contravenes the local laws of the countries concerned, and in my opinion, no religion should be above the law. |

It'a all a question of perspective, though.
Perhaps the newspapers were right to publish the cartoons on the grounds of freedom of speech but they also had to expect an outcry of protest. Those who felt offended had a right to feel offended but not to the magnitude of the response that has occurred. What has occurred is the usual minority of Moslems who seek out any opportunity to attack the West with their hatred. Anyone has the right to peaceful protest but no-one has the right to threaten innocent people with suicide attacks or to burn down embassy buildings. This is the work of idiotic extremists who shame the Islamic faith. If their goal is to inflame racial tensions and create divisions between people of different faiths, then they have succeeded. We must not allow the handfuls of violent extremists to threaten and undermine the good relations that we enjoy with the vast majority of law-abiding and peaceful Moslems in this country or anywhere else. |
