No sound when recording with Panasonic DMR-50

Hi-
I have a used Panasonic DMR-E50.It plays DVDVideo discs perfectly (multi region) It was originally from Germany.I have run the autosetup and it records video fine but no sound , just a mush. There is nothing else connected,just the dvd and tv with a scart cable any ideas please,thanks in anticipation,Mike

Very simply put, In Germany they use the same tv system as us (pal) that is why the picture is OK but the sound is slightly different, I believe ours is offset by 5.5 mcs and there's is 6 mcs, So if you are trying to record terrestial tv that is why it doesn't work but if you have the recorder connected to a Sky reciever or anything with a scart output and record though this it should then be OK as you are recording direct.

Actually it's the otherway round.

UK, Pal I sound is offset by 6Mhz.
Most of Europe, Pal B/G and / or Pal B/H is offset by 5.5Mhz.
