Sky Digital Bill Problem!

Sorry if this is the wrong thread..

Got a bit of a problem here. I have got Sky Digital and have had it for abput a year now. My payments, by direct debit, have always been on time except at Christmas where a miscalculation on my part meant the payment did not go out. I paid it as soon as i realised but because i was late they cancelled my direct dibet which i need to set it up again. So this month i got my bill as normal but i wanted to pay it over the phone and set up the DD again.

Ok this is where is gets complicted. My parents now live in Paris and recently my dad (who is hopeless with things like this and how they work) has managed to get Sky Digital as well. He said its not illegal but he doesnt think he is supposed to have it..not sure how he got it and who set it up for him but he was told that he couldnt, for eg, use the Sky Box Office or Prem Plus as Sky would find out he was using this in Paris and take it away from him.

So anyway, back to me, i got my bill last week and went to call them to pay and set this up again and the first thing, as per normal procedure i imagine, they asked me for was my home phone number. I gave this to them and then they asked for my name which again i gave. They then turned around and said the account is not in my name, but in a Mr XXX (my dad basically)! So i quoted them my Customer Service Account number and the have no records of this at all! I as like "thats my dad and he lives in France" which may not have been the smartest thing to say. They said they couldnt help me further and that he would need to call.

So i spoke to my dad..it transpired that when he resgistered with them he gave them mine and my sister's flat details and phone number (which he part owns as well).

But he won't call them because he doesnt want them to know he is in Paris using Sky...however i can't pay a bill so im totally stitched up here!

Anyone got any advice?

My dad's suggestion was that he would write them a letter, send it to me and i would forward it on from the UK here...thats just not going to work im afraid but i cant force him to call.

I really need to pay this bill but why would my account number have been wiped off completely from their records?

People resell cards for those living outside the UK who can't get a Sky subscription - ie because they're not in the UK or Ireland.

As I understand it, they are able to order Sky as if they were in the UK and just get the card sent. The dealer probably needed a UK phone number, and yours was given.

It would appear odd to Sky - two different addresses with the same phone number. However, you could just say "Oh, that's my Dad. His phone line hasn't been working so he uses my number until it's fixed."

I shouldn't think Sky would have deleted your account - try again, and blag your way out of the Dad using your number thing. No point telling them the card is in France - they might turn it off.

It's a tricky situation, but if you make something up I'm sure they won't think about it twice.

Would they let you pay by Cheque or Cash at the bank just to get up to date, then set the direct debit up by writing to them? If you include all your info it might be a bit easier for them to do?

Whatever possessed you to tell Sky your father had moved to France?

I think you may have done just that.

Get your story straight, and get your brain in gear before engaging mouth.

Thanks for your comments. I didnt tell Sky my father had moved to France..i said he was in France when they said they had no records of me only my dad. He hadnt told me he was using my phone number to register himself. So its normal that when they mentioned my dad and not me i was confused. I didnt think i needed to get my story straight or any story stright when i rang up to pay a bill

I actually think if anyone's stiched anyone up, he's stiched me up because i can't even pay my bill and its a week overdue already.

Nathelie, your dads account No will be on the newer Sky system (their are 2 systems just now) the person you got through to would only be on the one system. Phone up again with your account No and they should be able to find you on the old system.

Yup, when you call up it should ask for your phone number, use the phone number that Sky have registered on your account, not your fathers. This should take you to the correct call centre which deals with the old system.

In fact when you call and speak to an agent say you think your on the old system and they should know what you are talking about and will search for you on it.

Sky never deletes accounts.

Thanks for the info but the problem is when i called, I did give the number that was registered on my account. I gave my house number, and they had details for that but under my dad's name. When i gave my account number that i have always had and used when ringing up with queries, they had nothing for it and the phone call had to end because they didnt know who i was and as i wasnt the "account holder" they couldnt talk to me.

Sounds like the agent was using the new system and was not trained to spot older accounts. If your account number does not start like 6210... then you are on the old DCMS system. Just do as we say and call again and mention to the agent your on the old system.
