Late Date on Rapture TV

Just caught this when I've come in from a gig - if anyone from Rapture is reading this, you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves for signing that contract with Cellcast - which, if I'm correct, was to show Text 2 Date - not "Late Date" which is essentially Babestation without the flashing and texts on screen. That perm-haired gimp bloke from Grab A Grand "presents" saying things like "Oooh, would you look at those" etc, encouraging blokes to ring up and - I quote - "bash the bishop, spank the monkey" etc etc.

How low TV - and Rapture it would seem - has become. I rate this crap worse than Babestation, purely for the fact that Cellcast are trying to pretend it's something it's not, without Sky noticing. Pathetic.

They're claiming that its only going to be on for three months... claiming, however, is the operative word there

Its also on the arse end of the night, most of their traditional audience from the 1997-2001 era are either still out clubbing at that time, or have long since gone to bed, knackered from minding the kids

It's annoying to see crap like that on Rapture, as this time around the channel has a much better line up and more potential.

However since it appeared Rapture's bit rate has gone up and they've got some better films too so I think the money is being put to good use.

If Rapture can continue to improve the channel, and as a result get more viewers (and therefore more ad revenue) then showing Late Date will be worth it.

At least we've only lost three hours per night of Rapture... I can remember when it was only on at weekends, sharing with FilmFour from 10:00-17:45

However I agree about the content of Late Date, perhaps a different Cellcast show would be better.

Motors TV and TWC has these kind of things after midnight when they started out. None of them have it on now. It likely helps out to fund channels - acceptable when they are at least putting on original content.

What makes you so sure? In any case, three hours of 'interactive' programmes is no worse than up to five hours a night on ITV1

Rapture has more money this time, and they're producing lots of in-house content (more than many other FTA stations). Late Date will just help them through the start up phase with guaranteed income.

By selling that slot they are not breaking even and when you consider what they are producing and the viewing fugures i think that is impressive.

Also the webstream will be showing R Muzik and Rapture will be adding its own music stream to the website very soon.

The channel is expanding and the yneed money to do this before the viewing figures grow and they can get more advertising.

I take it Ratpture aren't even trying to pretend to be a dance channel anymore, they show so little dance. Even when the do have music videos, I have seen more Urban than dance.

At least now with its new graphics and 100% dance policy, MTV Dance is doing us dance fans some justice.

Their new History of Dance series has been particularly good and shows that they are putting effort into this channel, after what looked like they were letting it die a slow death.

Do they have someone new in charge?

Theres a diffence. L!VE TV never had any programming worth watching, at all. The News Bunny and the stripping weather presenter got quite tiring after about three minutes. Rapture has quite watchable shows.

As goes the Dance/Urban mix - thats down to the requests. I haven't actually seen an urban track being randomly selected without requests.

But when MTV Dance played dance/urban, everyone was up in arms.

Now MTV Dance are 100% dance and the supposedly "dancey" Rapture shows Urban.

Rapture isn't marketing itself as a Dance channel though (although they still have a good selection with stuff like Cygnus X, Svenson, Armin van Buuren etc that you don't often see on MTV Dance).

It's much more like the original channel this time, before they switched to clubbing and extreme sports only.

But they mix Urban in with the good dance - you yourself were very vocal when MTV Dance done this.

MTV Dance is now the best (and only) dance channel. It has been fanastic lately for showing some really good music.

Indeed I was, and i'm very pleased with the direction MTV Dance is going in at the moment and hope they keep it up.

The only reason I was vocal about MTV Dance is because it's meant to be a dance music channel - 50 Cent, Eminem, Pussycat Dolls etc shouldn't have been on a dance channel.

Rapture is not claiming to be a dance (or clubbing) channel this time around, although the original Rapture years ago had loads of urban/garage (which was big at the time) during R Muzik and passed itself off as a dance channel which, like MTV Dance, was wrong...

Fair enough.

All I can remember from Rapture the first time round was on cable and they seemed to play Superman Lover's Starman on a constant loop! Maybe my memory is going!

Possibly because MTV Dance claims its a Dance music station. And Rapture doesn't

They were a general entertaiment channel with some clubbing content from 1997 until about 2000, when they became a music channel and move to the music section. The post-relaunch channels have never claimed to be pure dance/clubbing - they're in Entertainment for a reason.

Gah, didn't see those two posts above when reloading and posting this.. nevermind...

Oh yeah (second edit) - the last R-Muzik track on Rapture Mark One was "Beautiful Day" by U2 - not very dance, really... And then iio by Rapture out over the pictures of the staff, but that wasn't R-Muzik.
