Vroom vroom

I don't know if anyone else bothered to waste an hour out of their life to watch this, but it was everything I expected it to be! The z-list has been plundered for the presenters and guests, Emma Parker-Bowles - supposed "motoring correspondent" for that comic, the Sun? Some authority on cars there then Then there are the "features" - pointless, ill-thought out and devoid of entertainment value.

It certainly served to remind me what a great show Top Gear is, and that Fifth Gear is watchable when Top Gear is off-air.

1/10, and I'm being generous.

Yeah i sky+ed it, so i watched the whole program in 10 mins flat

2 things that came to mind were

Lisa Rodgers Legs during the Citreon DS link

and

Holy Smoke, didnt top gear do fastest religions and grannies doing donuts
something very similar.

I was hoping that vroom vroom was going to be a motoring version of brainiacs.

But things are going to have to change, if its going to remain on sky1

I've become addicted to watching the Top Gear repeats on UKTV People and G2. Don't like the way they edit it to make room for the adverts, but you get most of it.

Why do Sky insist on giving their own 'attempts' at shows silly names :

Science programme - Brainiac
Food Programme - Taste
Car programme - Vroom Vroom

I'm glad I didn't give Vroom Vroom a chance!

The name 'Brainiac: Science Abuse' is actually quite a good name i think. Sums up the programme perfectly.

As for 'Vroom Vroom', yeah thats a bit of a crap name i must admit.

When i heard that Vroom Vroom was like Brianiac with cars i thought, hold on a minute thats more or less the description of Top Gear, which is already perfect - so why did they try and copy something they couldn't possibley improve on?!?

This was easily the worst motoring programme I've ever seen. The presenters are just soo dull. The testing of the Lexus was the worst exicuted review ever. I just sat through it thinking about have bad it is compared to Top Gear. Even Fifth Gear is more watchable and thats saying something.

It was not as bad as I expected, granted it's not Top Gear and not even upto Fifth gear standards but I laughed a few times and I certainly won't betaking any reviews/road tests as gospel

Did anyone else notice that when the "mouse" car turned over it nearly took Miss P-Bs arm off? How they got that stunt past H&S and Risk Asssessment i'll never now.

In motorsport (OK, it wasn't) you have to either have the windows up or a mesh at the window to stop any chance of your arm flying out, or in short-course ovals (Stock Car/Banger etc.) you have to have tethers.

The drivers window in the mousemobile was completely open and, as the car tips Miss P-B put her hand up to the top of the door to brace herself and was only a fraction of an inch away from serious injury.

As to the show, well it's one of those i'd probably end up watching every week just to see what stupid stuff they get up to. Thank god for Sky+ and FFwd.

Vroom Vroom...please get better

...sponsored by "confused.com" - how appropriate. Was this an attempt as a car review show, or a fun show with cars? Either way, the Granada production team failed Sky One miserably.

I did get to see the first episode and I was embarrassed, both as a TV researcher and a motoring journalist. To be fair though, it is hard enough to keep the pace going in an hour long show, but when there is no structure to hold the individual films together, life is made all the more difficult.

Being a motoring nut/journo I found that, despite a few presenters knowing a little about cars, it is clear that the production team didn't and, for that reason alone, the show loses all credibility. In watching EP1, to distract me from the temptation of throwing a spanner at the TV set, I started to write down my tekkie gripes: (all were noted on the sleeve of my favourate anorak)

What the hell is a Rover SDi? (Should be SD1); oh and the Triumph 2000 was introduced 6 years earlier than "Vroom Vroom" thought. 2 mistakes in one sentence of voiceover...that's good!

I never knew Citroen had "hyper-pneumatic" suspension. (You may have nice legs, but stick to consulting Kryton about the technical stuff, luv).

2cv piece was fun but it wasn't explained correctly why the car didn't roll over; the reason is the suspension is connected together, not because it is "soft".

The Lexus roadtest was OK, but script was strongly hung around the press pack, with no actual evaluation or opinion that is needed to keep the item alive and interesting. Testing a stereo? Brendan, you are better than that. No test existed to examine the unique features that makes the RX450h interesting.

The acceleration test of the super cars was SOOO dull. They tried to be scientific in a way, but the mysterious word "Torque" wasn't even mentioned or explained, yet that was what this test is all about.

However I enjoyed the Volvo drop but it lacked pizzazz and suspense; the BBC would have dealt with this in a far more entertaining and intelligent way without costing too much more. The old codger & dodgy car dealer stereotypes were a bit of fun though!

I hope Sky didn't broadcast one of the better episodes first. I hope it gets better, for the sake of Granada, Sky and my TV.

Rob. (P.S. Granada - give me a job!)

He isn't though is he? He's just Steve Coogan's brother. Nepotism, he's got the job - a job you could clearly do a lot better.

I was actually really worried about Isabella when I saw that, I know it's a natural reaction to put your arm out, but I was seriously concerned she would lose it, or that her arm would get seriously damaged - I'm just pleased it didn't.

I'm glad somebody brought this subject up as he is one of the worst TV presenters I have ever seen. He can't present, he can't review cars - and as you rightly say, it's only nepotism that got this talentless tw+t the job.

Drat, how come you get all the fun?! Where was that though - and why was he interviewing you - are you secretly a celebrity in disguise?!

Good for you! It's a pity you didn't have the presence of mind to kick him in the bo**ocks as well, but you did well enough by telling him to **** off.

Barkeep! A drink for SafeChuck.

Vroom vroom

more like groan groan. Take all the fun and science out of Brainiac : science abuse and replace it with stuff about cars written by people who think Max Power magazine is a little too mature and intelligent. I didn't think anyone could actually do anything THAT puerile and pointless.

I want my hour-minus-the-ads back you bastards.

I'd actually thought about suggesting that too, but I was concerned about how it'd sound if I did!

Sorry to drag this thread back up but today, during the preview for next weeks Vroom Vroom, I saw a child in a Dutch registered Audi Q7 driving through a school playground. At least he appeared to be driving? (LHD?) The child appeared to be around 13.

Watch on Tuesday at 9pm.
