Swansea... what ya think of it?
Im thinking of possibly going to Swansea university, the campus being set right on the beach is probably its biggest attraction to me!
I havent yet visited Swansea though, has anyone else been to Swansea or the Uni? or live there even? What do you think of it? I know its Wales second largest city, which is the only downish thing for me because im not a big city person! I HATE places like Portsmouth because its so run down. So how good is Swansea then? |

I've been and I quite liked it. It's only little and it's quiet, the coast is beautiful.

I grew up there and bloody loved it. it's got everything you need (imo): gorgeous countryside and beaches, great nightlife and a varied (albeit small) city centre. The people are fab (i may be slightly biased with this!)and everyone I know who went to Swansea uni loved it. |

Whats the point in having a beach if it's going to rain all the time?

The city centre's not that small, and it is growing - it's not the smallest of cities.
But it's a great place, I love it - you've got the city and the country right on your doorstep. Swansea Uni's a good university too. Good for it.

Just don't mention anything about Cardiff if you go there lol, all the residents seem to hate it! (because they wanted Swansea to be the Capital, can you believe it? lol)

I would go for it, my Aunty lives just up the road from Swanse uni, theres a park at the end of the uni road, called Singleton Park, they always have loads of outdoor concerts there.
Loads of things to do and not far from mumbles, I love it there. If I didn't have the life I do now I would have gone to Swansea uni. Good luck |

I'm from Cardiff, so Jacks are my natural enemies
![]() The university is lovely though; in a very nice spot, and the halls are nice. The city centre has a good variety of shops, but tends to be quite dirty (most of the times I've been there). |

Used to work for the DVLA and spent a lot of time in Swansea becuase of it. Bloody loved the place. Very friendly people there, quite a vibrant night life. Couple of good clubs.
Where else are you thinking of going aside from Swansea Uni? |

JACK ARMY! ![]() The city used to be quite dirty, but it's getting cleaner - it's really not that bad. And don't forget, that's not just a park, it's Singleton Park.. it's bloody massive!

Hi saw your post but had to wait till my account was validated before I could post. So sorry for bumping this back to the first page.
Just wanted to say I'm studying at Swansea right now. It's alright - the V.C's a bit of idiot who likes closing down departments & generally making decisions no one can understand. This does usually mean that there are quite a lot of days off due to strikes/protests etc It's in a great location & due to recent events that have been happening, is gonna have some major redevelopment to make facilitites better. The town itself is great about 20 minutes walk from the Uni (or there are frequent buses from the Student Village & Campus) but has all the major shops. There's a cinema. And is about 50 minutes away from Cardiff by train. As for nightlife, there are 2 whole streets which are just clubs & pubs where students spend their evenings (& most of their loans) As for it being a city, it's kind of strange to explain but becauyse of the beach & the fact it's quite small, it never really does feel like a city, which coming from Birmingham is a relief. The Uni's close enough to the town so you can walk bnut far enough way next to the beach & Singleton Park that you don't feel like you're living in a town. if that makes sense??? If there's anything you want to know about the Uni, feel free to get in touch |

Been there a few times,
from the surface, the actual town itself seems a little poor, however it's actually pretty good and they have great shopping and indoor market. Re: the beach, whenever it's sunny, it's great, and huuuuge. Theres also some nice places to eat. |

I once knew someone who was all set to go to Swansea Uni, then watched the film "Twin Town" and decided against it...
Have to say I love the place, great beaches (spent a lot of my childhood at Langland and Caswell Bay), and top nightlife (Baron's anyone ?) ;-) Also, if you haven't done the Mumbles Mile and eaten fresh Penclawdd cockles, you haven't lived ! Go ! |
