Tracy Barlow- A Bad Mother - Soaps

Am i alone in thinking that the character of Tracy Barlow is a bad mother and is setting a bad example, especially to young mums. Her attitude towards Amy is terrible and nobody ever tells her that she is a bad person. Why do Ken and Dierdre keep giving her chance after chance??

She is a fit and great mother to Amy - one of the best in soap. She is just misunderstood.

She is not fit and good mother. She is selfish and uncaring. Why does everyone keep sticking up for her?? Amy should be taken into care or custody given to Steve.

I know, atleast good old EastEnders took the moral route with Demi Miller and she actually looks after her baby.

Yep,Amy should be in care so much for Tracey looking after her.

At least she does look after her own child from time to time even if it is with a lot of complaining, which is more than can be said for Sarah Platt who just seems to dump Bethany on her mum or it seems more often than not David.

I can't believe she left her own child to be with Charlie. I mean explain to me how this is being a good mother. Do good mothers normally do this?

Tracy and the Barlows in general are extremely complicated, more complicated than any other soap family in that we have seen them develop together over the course of 30 years (45 years if you include Ken!).

Firstly, can I point out that I am strongly against the idea of characters in a serial drama acting as "role models" or that they could be seen as a "bad example". It may sound idealistic, but I believe that viewers can make their own decisions on their lifestyle and I don't think for one second that the development of a character should be hindered with the desire to be Politically Correct.

As far as Tracy is concerned as a character, she truly does love Amy and I don't think that she is a bad mother in the sense that she hates or dislikes her child, she just seems to have very muddled priorities. As IntoSoap said, she is very misunderstood.

Tracy's biggest downfall is her desire to be wanted. She comes across as being the bitch and the hardknock, but when she has that stripped away all she is looking for in reality is a man who loves her.

Ken & Deirdre "put up" with her because she is their daughter, you only had to watch the scene between Tracy & Deirdre on Monday to realise how much Deirdre thinks of her daughter.

Tracy Barlow is one of the main reasons i can't watch Corrie anymore. She disgusts me and yet people still have the nerve to call her a likeable character. Please tell me what is there to like about this woman??

In honesty - I do like Tracy and her as a mother - she does love Amy, she uses her alot as a threat to either Steve, like she did with Karen, and does with her mum and Ken, like an advantage.

Yeah, that's probably now a key feature of her character. It is unfortunate for Amy but Tracy does readily use her as a pawn in whatever her game may be. I mean she used Amy as the reasoning behind the "abortion".

I like Tracy as a mother, it was a good direction for the character, otherwise she would just be dropping her knickers willy-nilly with little or no consequence.

No I said Tracy left Amy at Deidres so she could go off any live with Charlie. You don't go leaving your own child. like that.
