So Who Is The BIGGEST Anorak??!!
This seems like the correct site for this kind of question. The title says it all.
Who is the biggest anorak you know? What MAKES them the biggest anorak? Do you someone that sits on top of Winter Hill late at night searching for distant stations? Do you know someone that knows every jingle and every jock from a particular station? Who is the biggest anorak that currently WORKS in the industry? Maybe you wanna nominate yourself?!!? C'mon!!! Out with it!!!! |

i qualify much better. ive been known to go to the top of car parks just to see what i can pick up both on the ham bands and broadcast bands. Ive memorized the frequencies of 98% of legal and pirate stations i can pick up and have i working knowledge of london stations even though ive been there only 2-3 times. i ive DXed on the US NOAA weather Radio frequencies that time i was in the US and even DXed on TV frequencies and there FRS band (PMR446 - UK equivelent).
Used to listen to shortwave all the time and miss Media network like hell (yes i know they are on the web) |

Someone who tunning to the medium wave band at night, without looking at the frequency display , knows what station is receiving 9 khz to 9 khz , with just a little time of listening.

Yes, I confess, I'm an anorak!
Have collected thousands of radio jingles Know nearly all of the frequencies for FM UK stations (and most of the AM too!) Have a massive FM and DAB rooftop aerials mounted on a rotator Have modified an FM tuner to extra-extra narrow-band, to allow for 'extreme' DXing! Have met up with other radio enthusiasts, to talk about - you've guessed it - radio! Sat on top of hills in my time to DX! Carry a walkman with me everytime I go somewhere new DX on aeroplanes God, the list in endless! Oh, I do fall down on the presenter/show side of things - don't like the modern jock much, prefer the old presenters of the 80's and 90's. |

Some interesting replies! It would seem that a few people actually have it quite bad!
What about the people in the industry though? Deep down I think everyone has a bit of anorak in them. After all thats why they work in the industry. Right? Anyone that tells you they aren't an anorak is telling a porky pie! Would you say Neil Fox is an anorak on the quiet? What about the likes of David Jensen and Scott Mills? One person that we CAN be sure of is Chris Moyles!! He has gotta be one of the biggest anoraks around! If you knew him from his Luxy & Hot FM days, you will probably know what I mean. I also know that most of the EMAP jocks are bigtime anoraks too! |

Well i've been a Anorak for over 40 years all thanks to the 60's offshore pirates.
I have been a Dx'er on the Medium wave, Shortwave, Amateur, Marine, and Fm bands, and also into Tv Dx'ing. I was a pirate on Medium wave in the late 60's (even been Medium wave mobile), i've been on Shortwave and the Fm band (still there on low power). I have been prosecuted for illegal broadcasting on Medium wave, Shortwave and Fm. I can tune an analogue Medium wave and FM radio blindfolded and know exactly what frequency i'm tuned too. This weekend i will be constructing a 3 element beam and a halo aerial for the 2 mtr Amateur band. I also collect 60's jingles and recordings of pirate radio stations, and i still don't think i'm as anoraky as some on this forum.

me too and i have to go into every radio and tweak it so the frequency is correct at the right point on the dial, and make 1008 the most sensitive area on the dial.

Oh dear. I appear to have ruffled some feathers. I guess I better watch my back from now on, eh?!
Having a pop at me for being dyslexic is uncalled for. How would you like it if I made fun out of you for no reason? Back to the topic.
