Matrix prequel?

Despite the slightly disappointing end to the matrix trilogy I would like to see them make a prequel.

I felt the best part of 'The Matrix Revolutions' was the fight against the machines, which gave me a good idea for a prequel which didn't really show the matrix but focused on Zion and showed how the machines took over the world.

It could be set in the near future where they are inventing artificial intelligence and one day it goes mad and rampages the streets, killing people. It could show some really good set pieces of the army fighting back and we could see the start of Zion by the few survivors retreating to a subway station named Zion or something. It could be a bit of a combination of the Spiderman fights with Doc Ock (I thought he resembled the machines a little bit). It would be a lot different to the matrix films with an entirely new cast (due to time difference) but I think they could make a much better film with this premise.

What do you think?

that's why the animatrix was made in the first place ..... to create a backstory to the films!

Haven't seen it but does it show the initial building of the first artificial intelligence?

Well i would love a prequel, but unlike the OP I thought the Matrix trilogy was always at it's best when it focused on The Matrix.

I thought the scenes in Zion and the battles with the Sentinels were long and overdrawn.

But the battles within the Matrix were superb. I loved the Twins, the Agents, the Merovingian, Seraph, and of course Neo, Trinity and Morpheus.

I'd like to see a prequel focus more on the politics of the matrix. E.g. what did the Agents make of the Merovingian? Did Agent Smith ever encounter The Twins? Who were the previous "Ones"? Etc.

But I doubt very much that there will be a prequel. Not yet, at least. Perhaps sometime in the future the franchise will be re-awakened by avid fans who make it big in Hollywood.

I would only like to see a prequel, if it moved away from the special effects, and really was focused on the writing and the story. The sequels were just special effects crazy, and it just got boring!

If the prequel dealt with some really dark, disturbing issues surrounding the creation of A.I/ The matrix and the whole moral issues surrounding it I would watch it! The first Matrix film was soo good to me because of the story not the special effects, they were just added bonuses!

Though I admit the final Neo/Agent Smith battle was good!

That is exactly what I thought - bring it back to a more recognisable world to the audience. I think this would be really powerful as we are gradually progressing to a stage of artificial intelligence so to show the devastating effects it can have would be a really powerful film.
