cup cake recipe?

hi,I just wanted to find a basic cup cake recipe. I've looked on the internet and all I can find is fancy recipes for weird and wonderful cupcakes.
I know its just egg, milk, sugar, butter and flour

Anyone know the measurements?

Use 2 ounces each of caster sugar, butter and flour to each egg. I normally make 4 ounces of mixture, this makes about 10 - 12 little cakes. Sorry, I'm old and don't do metric!

I think it's one then all the two's - one egg then two ounces of everything else. That's the recipe they always seem to use on Ready Steady Cook, anyway

Just cheat. One cake mix, one lot of cake papers. Couple of spoons in each, bake, usually about 12 minutes.

Cake mix packets tell you how to do it.

Betty Crocker, I ain't but I can cheat with every recipe.

If you want to make them fancy, slice off the top, cut piece of cake in half. Spoon icing on exposed cake. Replace lid halves so they stick up like wings. Sprinke with hundreds & thousands or chocolate flakes. Ta da --- butterfly cakes.

Hi Katebug,

I use this failsafe recipe too. But I add a 1/4 baking powder because I am lazy & use the al in 1 mixing method.

Minute drops od essence ( Vanilla, Lemon etc) can make all the difference too

For 12 fairy/cup cakes I always use the following:

4 oz soft margarine
4 oz caster sugar
2 eggs
4 oz self-raising flour

Cream sugar and marg; beat eggs in well; fold in flour. You could add half an ounce of cocoa at the flour stage if you'd like chocolate cakes. Divide between twelve cake cases placed in a bun tin, and cook second shelf from the top, for 20 minutes on gas mark 4.

Water icing; icing sugar and water is quickest for topping; or mix 4oz icing sugar with 2 oz softened butter if you'd like buttercream to spread or make butterflies.
